HomeMy WebLinkAboutReg 2016-06-20 Item 3 - Proclamation - The Boeing Company Centennial Day - July 15WHEREAS, the Boeing Company was founded in a small red barn on the shore of the Duwamish River on July 15, 1916; and WHEREAS, the Boeing Company has grown from producing a single canvas and wood airplane into the largest aerospace company in the world generating $85.7 billion in annual economic activity; and WHEREAS, the Boeing Company contributes significantly to the economic health of the State of Washington by employing over 79,000 people in our State — half its global workforce - and annually purchasing over $5.7 billion in materials, supplies and services from over 1,900 businesses in our State; and WHEREAS, the Boeing Company embraces a culture of caring and support for all Washingtonians, encouraging employees to volunteer and investing more than $53 million annually in the areas of education, health and human services, arts and culture, environment, and civic engagement; and WHEREAS, the Boeing Company contributes significantly to the economic health of the City of Tukwila by employing over 6,000 people at multiple locations in our city; and WHEREAS, the Boeing Company contributes significantly to the cultural health of the City of Tukwila by donating to the Museum of Flight and educational programs for young students; and WHEREAS, the Boeing Company is celebrating its centennial during 2016; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Allan Ekberg, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do hereby proclaim the 15' day of July 2016, as The Boeing Company Centennial Day Presented this 201 day of June, 2016
