HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-07-05 Proclamation - Parks and Recreation MonthOffice of the Mayor City of Tukwila, Washington PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, public parks and recreation systems are an integral part of enhancing the quality of life for communities through recreation programming, leisure activities, and conservation efforts; and WHEREAS, parks, recreation activities, events, and leisure experiences provide opportunities for young people to live, grow, and develop into contributing members of society; create lifelines and continuous life experiences for older members of the community; and improve the physical, mental and emotional health of all citizens; and WHEREAS, a parks and recreation system increases a community's economic prosperity through increased property values, expansion of the local tax base, increased tourism, attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction; and WHEREAS, parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological beauty of our community and provide a place for children, adults, and seniors to connect with nature and recreate outdoors; and WHEREAS, the city of Tukwila recognizes the vital contributions made by staff and volunteers in parks and recreation facilities who keep public parks clean and safe, organize activities for all ages, provide programming on health, nutrition, and advocate for open space and trails; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation supports a safe, inviting, and healthy environment for our residents, businesses and guests. NOW THEREFORE, I, Allan Ekberg, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do hereby proclaim July 2016: Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Tukwila and encourage all citizens to join me in recognizing this special observance.
