As a part of the overall Public Safety Plan, the City of Tukwila is considering placing a 20-year voter ap-
proved bond on the November 8, 2016 general election ballotto support the needs of our first responders.
The bond would raise funds to replace three seismically unsound fire stations (#51, #52 and #54), provide
guaranteed funding for fire apparatus and equipment, and construct a Justice Center to house the Tuk-
wila Police Department and Municipal Court. The bond would cost an average of $116 per year for the
owner of a home with an assessed value of $250,000.
Should the City Council decide to put this before the voters this fall, the City of Tukwila must forward
names of individuals interested in being on the pro and con committees to provide statements in favor or
in opposition to the ballot measure for the voters' pamphlet. Each committee is limited to three individu-
als, though an unlimited number of persons can assist in the preparation of the statement. Each commit-
tee must designate one spokesperson. The Pro/Con statements will be due to King County Elections by
August 11, 2016.
The City is responsible for forwardingthe committee names to the King County Elec-
tions Department. Therefore, the City is soliciting interested persons who want to
serve on either the pro or con committee. Should the City receive more than three
names for either of the committees, the City Council will make the final determina-
tion as to the makeup of each committee at the August 1, 2016 Council meeting.
Interested persons have until Monday, July 25 at 5:00Prn to submit their name to the City by emailing or
calling Rachel Bianchi at Rachel.Bianchi@TukwilaWA.gov or 206-454-7566. Be sure to indicate which
committee you would like to serve and whether you are willing to serve as the committee's spokesperson.
