HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOPCAB 2016-04-14 MinutesCity of Tukwfla Allan Ekberg, Mayor Police Department - Mike Villa, Chief April 14, 2016 6:30pm- 8:OOpm Members Present: Kim Karns, John Lindsay, Jan Bolerjack, Jun Castillo, Laurie Clark Staff Present: Deputy Chief Linton, Chris Partman Guest: Zak Idan • Minutes for 3/10/16 meeting approved • Chief's update • Temporary staffing changes: • Deputy Chief Linton is assigned as the project manager for the Facilities Team • As a result, Commander Mitchel is acting Deputy Chief • Sgt. Rossi is acting Commander • Sgt. Murphy has been transferred from patrol to Professional Standards • Detective Rock is acting Sgt. in patrol In July Commander Drever, who is currently acting Technology Services Director, will be attending the FBI Academy Facilities report • In March there was a first meeting with a Council work group • The second meeting was about financing options and looking at tools to finance a bond to put to Tukwila voters. On 4/19 there was a meeting with the Finance and Safety Committee to put together an outreach plan. Ideas were 1. Police and Fire Dept. open houses 2. Mailings 3. Tukwila Reporter Articles 4. Tukwila TV 5. Through citizen groups, such as COPCAB In July the City council will decide if the measure will go on the November ballot. • The proposal currently is for: 1. A Justice Center for Police and Courts 2. Replace the North and Minkler Shops 3. Lisa Harrison for 17 years as SRO, Explorer Program, Shop with a Cop. Both Tukwila Employees to get award • Good of the Order • Jun — what about COPCAB goals? Answer, will work on them next month from the strategic plan. Question about survey results. D/C Linton says he will have them next month. He loves that the PD has provided the acting Technology Services Director. • John — Is teaching Tai Chi on Wed. and Fri. at TCC • Chris — Next meeting May 19"', due to Chris being out of town on May 12. • Jan — Currently, the church has a split-off group from Tent City 3 staying on the property. This is 10 tents housing 22 people. And a very responsible group. Would like to see the City of Tukwila policy on homelessness. • Laurie — For the rest of the year, students undergoing statewide assessments. The Tukwila School District is looking at the vision and philosophy for the next 100 years. What will student needs be into the future?
