Just before 8pm, Tukwila Fire Department was dispatched to an Automatic Fire Alarm,
(smoke detector system that automatically calls the alarm company to report the alarm
system was activated). A single engine responded and discovered smoke and flames
inside the business. The building was a single story business park with multiple
businesses. The business was locked up and no one was inside when Firefighters
arrived.
The response was upgraded to a Commercial Fire and declared it a "Working Fire ",
which dispatched two additional engines, two ladder trucks, an Aid Car and two
Battalion Chiefs. Kent Regional Fire Authority, Renton Fire Authority, North Highline,
South King County Paramedics and Zone 3 Rehab unit responded.
Crews made a rapid entry and were able to extinguish the fire before it spread too much
further in the building. The fire was contained to the front office portion of the business.
Chemicals were reported to be in the building, but were not involved in the fire, nor the
cause of the fire.
No reports of injuries to civilians or firefighters.
Investigators are still on scene searching for a cause. Damage is estimated to be
around $50,000.
This was a good example of the benefit of having an Automatic Fire Alarm system in
your business.
