Where shelving is applied to the partition or seismic design requires additional bracing, fastener spac- ing must be reduced. With conventional ceiling•grid, 1/2" Type S -12 pan head screws may be used. When required, apply two rows of . 1/4" and 3/8" foam tape behind track. Splice clips 764A can be used to provide alignment of long runs of ceiling track. They should be staked to each side of one end of each piece . prior to installation. Since the clips are smaller than the slot, stake with the clip next to the top retainer. Corner clips 763A are used similarly with mitered corners of the ceiling track. FOAM TAPE FLOOR TRACK . Secure floor track to hard surfaces with suitable nails, screws, or pins spaced a maximum of 48" o.c. Apply two rows of 1/4" x 3/8" foam tape underneath track. When shelving is applied to the partition or seismic design requires additional bracing, fastener spacing must be reduced. For non -rated partitions installed over loop pile nylon carpeting, the track may be applied with 6" length of 2 "• wide RCU -84 Velcro tape spaced 24 o.c. Be sure to cut..' through vinyl surface before breaking boards. Cut stud 1/2" shorter than panel height and place on panel 1/2" from top to use for clip . alignment. • Install five C -2 edge clips every 18" along edge of panels. Four clips may be used if panel is screwed at bottom. EDGE `CLIP Position by eye at center of slot. Tap clips fully to seat them. Insert C -3 spring steel clips into each edge clip. The holes in the C -2 clip are the normal center position of the C -3 clip. Some mechanics find it easier to first fit the C -3 clip under the C -2 clip before driving the C -2 clip into the panel.: CEILING TRACK` tiz_ T c PANEL APPLICATION PANEL/ FLOOR TRACK 700 STEEL STUD 1. insert two flange spacers in the 700 steel studs, one at about 3' from the floor and the other 18" above the first. (Optional) 2. To install panel, push top of panel between stud and ceiling track (see sketch A). Then push in bottom of panel while resting on floor and pul- ling out on middle of panel (B). Push panel against stud to engage clips (C). 3. Npte that the C -3 clip may be moved 1/4" in or out from the normal center position (holes in C -2 clip) if required to fit studs already installed. Or, studs already installed on one side may be moved 1/4" also. 4. A 700 steel stud can be used where wall begins with uncut panel edge. Stud is attached to other wall with track screws or other fasteners 24" o.c. Panels snap onto stud without additional trim parts. 5. Cut Ending Intersection can be used to start or end any panel. Steel stud is attached to other wall with track screws or other fasteners 24" o.c. Panels are screwed to stud with panel screws 24" o.c. and are placed within 1/2" of corner to be concealed by trim. 6. An alternate to steel stud uses 504A PANEL AND STUD APPLICATION aluminumor 550P plastic intersection and attached to other wall with screws or other fasteners spread 24" o.c. Panels are inserted without fastening. 7. A 700 steel stud is cut 1 -1/2" short of ceiling height. Place stud into position in floor track and press against panel so clips snap onto stud. Then install panel on other side. Adjust first pair of panels to be plumb and square. Continue to erect panels in same sequence. If floor is not level, occasional shimming of panels at floor may be necessary to maintain plumb and square panel installation. 8. An intermediate 2 -1/2" DWS steel stud is required for 48" panels. Cut to length and insert similar to 700 steel stud. Apply spots of panel adhesive on stud 18" o.c. before installing panel. 9. When ending a run of wall, measure the total opening before the last full panel is placed. Cut and install -MO last panel before installing the last full panel. ADHESIVE 50 STEEL STUD ALTERNATE STARTING DETAILS 04A w 550P SECTION END 250 S EEL STUD STAGGERED, JOINTS • WIDTH VARIATION ADJUSTMENTS. • Because of normal manufacturing tolerances of wallboard plus using plain, vinyl, or vinyl tackboard finishes, the finished panel width can vary 1/16" and, in some cases, up to 1/8 ". Adjustments can be made as follows: 1 2. Check widths Make a habit of checking widths especially when different colors and patterns are used on opposite sides of the wall. Different production runs and even those of one color can have variations. When walls are longer than 14 feet, this can be important. Start in center of run - On larger walls, start installing panels at the center of the run and go both ways. If one side is completed, start the other side at the center to reduce variation to one -half at each end. The C -3 clips can move 1/2" in the C -2 clips and the steel stud can flex 1/8" so that a 5/8" variation can be taken up at the end of a run. • Use double -700 steel studs - By installing steel studs back to back with panels offset 1" as shown a 1" adjustment can be obtained. • Adjustment at full height door frames - On long corridors with cross walls running off other side and where full height,. doorframes are used, width adjustments are made at each along the corridor • Cut panels at intersections - Long corridor or other walls can be adjusted on the intersecting wall side. Behind the intersection, the panels can be cut and spreod open to adjust for gain or cut out to adjust for loss. • Make special panel widths - Over mitered door frames and when other solutions do not work, the only solution is to cut a panel narrower and wrap the vinyl around the back. To do this, make a very straight deep cut from the back side of the panel. Break the board and peel vinyl back. Clean the raw gypsum edge, sand if necessary to make a straight edge. Use Elmer's glue or equivalent, wrap . :. vinyl around edge and back, and staple to back of panel. 546P BASE TRIM EASE TRIM BASE TRIM FIELD NOTCH BACK OF BASE TRIM AT OUTSIDE CORNER BASE TRIM AT CORNER ACOUSTICAL INSULATION SPOT STAPLE INSULATION TO BACK OF PANEL 1. Attach base trim clips 18" O.C. with 9/16" staples per clip. 2. Press base trim over clips at normal room temperatures to avoid thermal expansion. 3. Place an additonal clip at end of each piece of base trim. 4. At outside corners cut back of base trim as shown and bend 900. White fracture line which occurs on outside of bend can be removed by warming gently with a lighted match. -8- 1.
