New application of built -up
roofing on existing building
In reviewing,the existing structural calculations it was found that a
2.2 psf load was used for the built -up roofing weight. The actual
design weight for the existing roof should be 1.5 psf. Thus with a
new 2.4 psf additionaT load, the built -up roofing would total 3.9 psf.
In recalculating, all existing framing remained adequate for the
additional maximum load of 2.4 psf for the built -up roofing.
In the redesign of the 2x4 stiffeners, a slight modification had to
be incorporated. The design method of including the 5/8" plywood
with the 2x4 stiffener as one section, through the justification of
shear -flow along the plywood to the stiffener, is transferred by .
minimum nailing (10d at 6" on center = 190 pif along stiffener).
The calculations are enclosed.
