The monopole Is a 120 -foot, tapered, 12 -sided pole, constructed of three steel sections, The pole diameter at the base is 36.3- Inches, and the diameter at the top is 14.7 - Inches. Refer to the monopole elevation sketch on Enc1-1 for more information. The monopole was designed by Alpha Tower Design, Inc. in 1992. This analysis was performed per your April 14, 2000 request for a structural analysis of the monopole. The request was to investigate the feasibility of adding sixteen (18) Larsen ISM antennas at the 96 -foot level in addition to the following existing antennas: ' 1, Airtouch — Three (3) Allgon 7130.16 antennas and mounts at the 115 -foot level 2. Alrtouch — Eight (8) Allgon 7130.18.33.00 antennas and mounts at the 70 -toot level The monopole has been evaluated for the following load combinations: 1 Existing Alrtouch antenna configuration 2. Existing Airtouch antenna configuration plus proposed Metricom antennas The Airtouch antenna information was based on the April 20, 2000 phone conversation with Brandon Beigin of American Tower Corporation. Refer to the antenna loading sheet on Enc1-2 for more information on the antennas. AU design information for the analysis, including the monopole geometry, member sizes, material strength, foundation and soil data were provided by American Tower Corporation. Refer to the monopole elevation sketch on Enc1-1 and to the pole wind loading sheet on Enc1-4 for more information. Letter to Brandon Belgin -- Ar+prican Tower Corp., Riverton Monopole April 21, 2000 Page 2 MONOPOLE ANALYSIS RESULTS A computer analysis of the monopole was performed to assess its structural performance under the current design standard, ANSI/TIA/EIA 222 -F. All antenna and member wind toads were per the ANSI/TIA/EIA 222 -F recommendations. Allowable member stresses were also per the ANSI/TIA/EIA 222 -F, which in tum references AISC "Manual of Steel Construction, Allowable Stress Design, 9th edition ". ANSUTIA/EIA 222 -F and AISC allow a 33% increase in allowable stress for wind loading on towers less than 700 feet tall. The wind speed used for the original design of this monopole was 90 -mph with % -inch radial ice. The design wind speed used for this analysis was 90 -mph without ice and 78 -mph with Y-Inch radial ice. This design wind speed is 10 mph above the ANSI/TIA /EIA 222 -F recommended wind Toad criteria for King County, WA. We assumed that no additional cable ports will be added to the outside of the monopole. We recommend that the monopole be evaluated for its structural adequacy if Metricom requires additional cable ports to be installed on the monopole. The monopole was divided into 24 member increments and analyzed using the STAAD computer analysis program. Please review the following table for a summary of the monopole stresses. Associated with each Toad combination is the maximum member stress percentage as well as Its location on the monopole. The member stress percentage Is the ratio of the member stress to Its allowable stress expressed as a percentage. The section numbers and member numbers in the table below refer to those In the STAAD computer model. Please refer to the attached monopole geometry sketch on Enc1-1 for further information. In conclusion, under extreme wind and Ice loading the maximum stresses in each section of the monopole will be Tess than the allowable stress specified by ANSI/TIA/EIA 222 -F. FOUNDATION ANALYSIS RESULTS A structural review of the monopole foundation system was performed per the Alpha Tower Design, Inc. foundation design information provided to us. The maximum monopole base reactions with the addition of the proposed sixteen (18) Larsen ISM antennas are still less than the maximum base overturning moment, shear and axial force values listed on the foundation design analysis. Our analysis indicates that the foundation system and the anchor bolts are adequate to resist the additional loads Imposed by the proposed antennas. CONCLUSION We have determined that the proposed Larsen ISM antennas can be safely Installed at the 95 -foot level, along with the existing antenna configuration, on the USWest Airtouch 120 -foot monopole at the Riverton site In King County, WA. All member stresses and foundation loads are within the allowable limits. As noted above, we recommend that the monopole be evaluated for its strength if Metricom is planning to add any additional cable ports to the monopole. The analysis was done based on the Information provided to us by American Tower Corporation, including the monopole and foundation design calculations by Alpha Tower Design, Inc. and soil investigation findings by Rittenhouse -Zeman & Associates, Inc. The analysis was also done based on the assumption that there are no damaged or deteriorated structural components In the monopole. We have enjoyed working with you on this project.
