General
This specification is for use over any type of approved structural
deck (without insulation) which can receive and adequately retain
nails or other types of mechanical fasteners that may be recom-
mended by the deck manufacturer. Examples of such decks are
wood and plywood. This specification is not for use directly over
lightweight, insulating concrete decks.
Design and installation of the deck and /or substrate
must result in the roof draining freely and to outlets
numerous enough and so located as to remove water
promptly and completely. Areas where water ponds
for more than 24 hours are unacceptable and are
not eligible to receive a Schuller Roofing Systems
Guarantee.
Note: All general instructions contained in The current Schuller
Commercial /Industrial Roofing Systems Manual should be consid-
ered part of this specification.
Fiashina:
Flashing details can be found in the "Bituminous Fleshings" section
of the Schuller Commercial /Industrial Roofing Systems Manual.
/- ,pplIcotior.
Over wood board decks, one ply of sheathing paper must be used
under the base felt and on top of the wood board deck.
Note: On roof decks with slopes up to 1" per foot (83.3 mm /m),
the roofing felts may be installed either perpendicular or parallel to
the roof incline. On slopes over 1" per foot (83.3 mm /m), refer to
Paragraph 6.11 of this section for special requirements.
Using GlasBase, GlasBase Plus, Ventsuletion, or PermaPly 28,
start with a 12" (305 mm) width (a specific base sheet may be a
condition of Guarantee). The following base sheet courses are to
be applied full width, lapping the preceding felt 2" (51 mm) on the
side laps and 4" (102 mm) on the end laps. Nail the side laps 9"
(229 mm) o.c. Down the longitudinal center of each felt, place two
rows of nails spaced approximately 11" (279 mm) apart, with the
nails staggered on approximately 18" (457 mm) centers. Use nails
or fasteners appropriate to the type of deck with 1" (25 mm) mini-
mum diameter caps. For additional fastener information, refer to
the Fastener Data in the "Roof Deck" section of the current Schuller
Commercial /Industrial Roofing Systems Manual.
Using GlasPly Premier, PermaPly -R, or GlasPly IV, apply a piece
18" (457 mm) wide, then over that, a full width piece. The follow-
ing felts are to be applied full width overlapping the preceding felts
by 19" (483 mm) so that at least 2 plies off felt cover the base
felt /substrate at all locations. Install each felt so that it is firmly and
uniformly set, without voids, into the hot bitumen (within t25 °F
[±14 °C] of the EVT) applied just before the felt at a nominal rate of
23 Ibs, per square (1,1 kg.m2) over the entire surface. Installation
over porous substrates such as roof insulation may require up to
33 lbs. per square (1.6 kg/m2) of hot bitumen,
Surfacing
Prior to application of GlasKap, cut the cap sheet into handleable
lengths (12' - 18' [3.66 m - 5.50 m]). Lay the material out on the
roof and allow it to relax and flatten. To accommodate a full width
sheet, apply a mopping of hot asphalt, approximately 20 °F above
the EVT, at a nominal rate of 23 Ibs. per square (1.1 kg /m'). (The
higher temperature of asphalt maximizes the bonding of the cap
sheet to the ply felts.) Then flop the cap sheet into the hot asphalt.
On subsequent courses, the cap sheet is positioned upside down,
directly over the sheet in the preceding course such that the side lap
area of the preceding sheet is exposed. Care should be taken to
maintain 2" (51 mm) side laps and 6" (152 mm) end laps. Asphalt
is applied in the some manner as before, making sure to also cover
the 2" (51 mm) exposed side lap. Asphalt may also be applied to
the exposed "upside down" cap sheet, prior to "flopping" it into the
hot asphalt. The cap sheet must be firmly and uniformly set, without
voids, into the hot asphalt with all edges and laps well sealed.
Asphalt should meet the requirements of ASTM D 312. The contrac-
tor must provide a Schuller confirmation number for asphalt on jobs
which require a Guarantee. Check with a Schuller Technical Service
Specialist for special requirements in hot climates.

Dear Shellie,

We have received your fax request for additional information pertaining to the above referenced
permit applications and enclose documentation regarding the roof system manufacturer's printed
specification and UL test approval documentation. Upon review you will see the system intended
for use as submitted and approved by the building owner's representative is a standard mineral
capsheet surfaced built -up asphalt roof system, typical of many roofs within your jurisdiction,
and conforms to the criteria established for a Underwriters Laboratories Class "A" fire rating
when applied accordingly over a combustible deck.
Regarding the insulation issue; the existing insulation is placed beneath the roof decking on both
buildings and as such we are not disturbing, altering, or changing the thermal insulation
characteristics as presently exist. This is strictly a process of removing the existing roofing
materials and replacement with virtually an identical roof membrane assembly as exists now.
If you have any more questions please contact me at your earliest convenience. Thank you for
your prompt attention to our applications.
Sincerely,
Haight Rooflas Company, Inc.

This specification is for use over any type of approved structural
deck (without insulation) which con receive and adequately retain
nails or other types of mechanicol fasteners that may be recom-
mended by the deck manufacturer. Examples of such decks are
wood ond plywood. This specification is not for use directly over
lightweight, insulating concrete decks.
Design and installation of the deck and /or substrate
must result in the roof draining freely and to outlets
numerous enough and so located as to remove water
promptly and completely. Areas where water ponds
for more than 24 hours are unacceptable and are
not eligible to receive o Schuller Roofing Systems
Guarantee.
Note: All general instructions contained in the current Schuller
Commercial /Industrial Roofing Systems Manual should be consid-
ered part of this specification.
Ficshir,gs
Flashing details can be found in the "Bituminous Fleshings" section
of the Schuller Commercial /Industrial Roofing Systems Manual.
Over wood board decks, one ply of sheathing paper must be used
under the base felt and on top of the wood board deck.
Note: On roof decks with slopes up to I. per foot (83,3 mm /m),
the roofing felts may be Installed eitherpsrpendicu(ar or parallel to
the roof incline. On slopes over 1" per foot (83,3 mm /m), refer to
Parograph 6.11 of this section for special requirements.
Using GlasBase, GlosBose Plus, Ventsulotian, or PermaPly 28,
start with a 12" (305 mm) width (a specific base sheet may be a
condition of Guarantee), The following base sheet courses are to
be applied full width, lopping the preceding felt 2" (51 mm) on the
side lops and 4" (102 mm) on the end lops, Nail the side laps 9"
(229 mm) o.c. Down the longitudinal center of eoch felt, place two
rows of nails spaced opproxtmotely 11' (279 mm) apart, with the
nails staggered on approximately 18" (457 mm) centers. Use nails
or fasteners appropriate to the type of deck with 1" (25 mm) mini-
mum diameter cops. For additional fastener information, refer to
the Fastener Data in the "Roof Deck" section of the current Schuller
Commercial /Industrial Roofing Systems Manual.
Using GlosPly Premier PermaPly-R, or GlasP IV, apply a piece
18" (457 mm) wide, glen over that, o full width piece. The follow-
ing felts are to be applled full width overlapping the preceding felts
by 19" (483 mm) so that at least 2 plies of felt cover the base
felt/substrate at all locations. Install each felt so that it is firmly and
uniformly set, without voids, into the hot bitumen (within ±25°F
(•14 °C) of the EVT) applied just before the felt at a nominal rote of
23 Ibs, per square (1,1 kg,m) over the entire surface. Installation
over porous substrates such as roof insulation may require up to
33 Ibs, per squore (1,6 kg /m') of hot bitumen.
Surfacing
Prior to application of GlasKap, cut the cap shut into handleable
lengths (12' - 18' [3.66 m - 5.50 m)). Lay the material out on the
roof and allow it to relax and flatten, To accommodate o full width
sheet, opply a mopping of hot asphalt, approximately 20 °F above
the EV1, at a nominal rate of 23 lbs. per square (1.1 kg /m'). (The
higher temperature of asphalt maximizes the bonding of the cap
sheet to the ply felts.) Then flop the cap sheet into the hot asphalt.
On subsequent courses, the cap sheet is positioned upside down,
directly over the sheet in the preceding course such that the side lap
area of the preceding sheet is exposed, Care should be token to
maintoin•2" (51 mm) side lops and 6" (1.52 mm) end laps. Asphalt
is applied in the some manner as before, making sure to also cover
the 2" (51 mm) exposed side lop. Asphalt may also be applied to
the exposed "upside down" cop sheet, prior to "Bopping" it into the
hot asphalt. The cap sheet must be firmly and uniformly set, without
voids, into the hot asphalt with all edges and laps well sealed,
Asphalt should meet the requirements of ASTM D 312. The contrac-
tor must provide a Schuller confirmation number for asphalt on jobs
which require o Guarolttee. Check with a Schuller Technical Service
Specialist For special requirements In hot climates.
