Light Rail situation during major sporting events
• Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics, 7:10 p.m., Safeco Field (est. 33,000
fans)
• University of Washington football vs. Stanford, 6 p.m., Husky Stadium. The
meeting between the top -ten teams is expected to sellout with nearly 70,000
people attending the 6 p.m. game.
Time 1330 hours
Traffic — light to medium
Pedestrian — light foot traffic
Parking situation —
South lot: full
North lot: full

Time 1530 -1600 hrs.
Traffic: light to medium traffic — people started coming to the game. Parking filled with
cars.
Sidewalks /Pedestrian: foot traffic is medium.
Parking — south & north are full
Light rail security officer advised people to park on the roof top of the yellow building
on the west side of 15425 Tukwila International Blvd. In addition, people were advised
to park at the Angle Lake Tight rail station in SeaTac.

Final Observation
North lot
No vehicle accidents or other incidents were reported, therefore, no major congestions
besides medium to heavy foot in the south lot and vehicle traffic due to sporting events
between 1530 -1630 hours.
The problem is that with the exception any physical bottlenecks (unknown at this time),
the sources of congestion occur with maddening irregularity. Nothing is ever the same
from one day to the next! One day commuters might face low traffic volumes, no traffic
incidents, and good weather; the next day traffic might be heavier than normal, it might
be raining, and a severe crash may occur that blocks traffic lanes. However, on this
game day, no major problems /congestions were observed.
