This deck design is proposed to be a self - supporting structure yet connected to the house. The design shows footings at the outer end of the deck which is sufficient for supporting that portion. However to be completely self - supporting the other post shall also be provided with the similar footings where the slab does not qualify for a footing. Another option would be to attach the deck at the ledger to the building in compliance with the current building codes where the ledger is attached per the specifications of TABLE R502.2.2.1 for fastener type and spacing and where a hold -down tension devices shall be installed in not less than two locations (each side) of the deck, and each device shall have an allowable stress design capacity of not less than 1500 pounds (see detail below) to resist both lateral and wind load combinations. Provide a detail to show the footings at each post with approved post base concrete device connections or show a detail similar to the ledger attachment in the detail shown below with ledger bolts specified.
