LAUTERBACH, Council Analyst; STEVE LANCASTER, DCD
Director; ROSS EARNST, Public Works Director.
Randy King, 15819 53rd Avenue South, expressed his desire to see
fire works banned in the City. He said the scene at Crystal Springs
Park (the day after the Fourth) resembled the aftermath of a war
zone. Fire works cause property damage, injuries, and invite many
other unnecessary problems into the City.
City Administrator McFarland commented that there were a
number of young people at Crystal Springs Parks, on the Fourth,
participating not only in setting off fireworks, but in drinking and
vandalism. The Fire Department was on the scene and they finally
had to call for police backup. McFarland says he has received a
number of calls from citizens asking about the possibility of a fire
works ban in the City.
Councilmember Duffie says the situation has gotten completely out
of hand, and that he will definitely support any legislation on a
ban.
The Council requested copies of the police reports resulting from
the Fourth of July holiday incidents, and agreed to forward this
issue to the next Finance and Safety Committee meeting for further
discussion.
