Chad Walker, Project Manager RE: Big Lot's - Storage Racks 17348 South Center Parkway Tukwila, Washington 98188 pr As requested, a structural review of the calculation packages and proposed erection drawings for the new storage racks has taken place. Storage rack types Lozier and Mecalux are used in this project. The proposed calculations and plans are in compliance with the 2009 IBC and ASCE 7 -10 (design requirements). The design criteria used for the design (seismic site class D, soil type Sds= 0.984) is greater than the local seismic requirements. Supporting calculations have been included. Refer to the calculation package erection drawings by Mobayed Consulting Group (Project No. 12027 -1.10 and 12027A -1.10, dated June 5, 2012) for additional information and specifications. The anchoring system is an alternative to cast -in -place anchors described in Sections 1911 and 1912 of the IBC and Sections 1923.1 and 1923.2 of the UBC. The anchors may also be used where an engineered design is submitted in accordance with Section R301.1.3 of the IRC. 3.0 DESCRIPTION KB-TZ anchors are torque - controlled, mechanical expansion anchors. KB-TZ anchors consist of a stud (anchor body), wedge (expansion elemehts), nut, and washer. The anchor (carbon steel version) is illustrated in Figure 1. The stud is manufactured from carbon steel or AISI Type 304 or Type 316 stainless steel materials. Carbon steel KB-TZ anchors have a minimum 5 pm (0.00002 inch) zinc plating. The expansion elements for the carbon and stainless steel KB -TZ anchors are fabricated from Type 316 stainless steel. The hex nut for carbon steel conforms to ASTM A 563-04, Grade A, and the hex nut for stainless steel conforms to ASTM F 594. The anchor body is comprised of a high - strength rod threaded at one end and a tapered mandrel at the other end. The tapered mandrel is enclosed by a three - section expansion element which freely moves around the mandrel. The expansion element movement is restrained by the mandrel taper and by a collar. The anchor is installed in a predrilled hole with a hammer. When torque is applied to the nut of the installed anchor, the mandrel is drawn into the expansion element, which is in turn expanded against the wall of the drilled hole. Installation information and dimensions are set forth in Section 4.3 and Table 1. Normal- weight and structural lightweight concrete must conform to Sections 1903 and 1905 of the IBC and UBC. 4.0 DESIGN AND INSTALLATION 4.1 Strength Design: 4.1.1 General: Design strengths must be determined in accordance with ACI 318-05 Appendix D and this report Design parameters are provided in Tables 3 and 4. KB-TZ anchors consist of a stud (anchor body), wedge (expansion elements), nut, and washer. The hex nut for carbon steel conforms to ASTM A 563 -04, Grade A, and the hex nut for stainless steel conforms to ASTM F 594. The anchor body is comprised of a high- strength rod threaded at one end and a tapered mandrel at the other end. The tapered mandrel is enclosed by a three - section expansion element which freely moves around the mandrel. The expansion element movement is restrained by the mandrel taper and by a collar. The anchor is installed in a predrifled hole with a hammer. When torque is applied to the nut of the installed anchor, the mandrel is drawn into the expansion element, which is in tum expanded against the wall of the drilled hole. FireGuard® has been tested to standards developed by NFPA and Cal Fire 1237.1. The key to FireGuard's® ability to retard flames is its organic ammonium salt formulation. When exposed to flames or intense heat, an acidic catalysis occurs resulting in the formation of an inert gas that blankets the surface. Because of this blanket, there is no oxygen available at the surface and flames cannot form. For best results, apply to clean, dry surfaces. FireGuard® can be applied either by spraying or dipping. When sprayed, it should be applied at a rate of 200 to 500 square feet per gallon of FireGuard®, depending upon the texture of the surface being treated. More absorbent surfaces will require heavier coverage. Cleaning or laundering treated surfaces may remove or dilute the treatment. To assure that items remain flame retardant, FireGuard® should be reapplied after cleaning. FireGuard® Can be used on.... Curtains and Draperies • Household Fabrics • Theatrical Fabrics Exhibition Fabrics Crafts • Household Items • Upholstery and Interior Furnishings • Natural and Synthetic Textiles Natural and Synthetic Blends ADDITIONAL FLAME RETARDANT SOLUTIONS: ForceField FireGuard -E84 is an intumescent coating that provides fire retardance and fire resistance to a wide range of construction and decorative materials including: sheetrock, oriented strand board (OSB), wood, concrete, sheet metal, interior and exterior woods. FINAL DESIGN AND INSTALLATION SHALL BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH NFPA 13 AND ALL LOCAL CODE REQUIREMENTS. Big Lots New Store FA System Requirements FA System Information Contact Michael Poe (614) 278 -6846, epoe@biglots.com Fire Alarm Systems: Big Lots requires that all Fire Alarms (FA) be installed per the Authority Having Jurisdiction for the area. If the AHJ does not require a FA for the space Big Lots will require that the flow and tamper switches from the sprinkler system serving the space be monitored. Big Lots (BL) uses Consolidated Fire Protection (CFP) to monitor all FA's installed in new stor -es. Following the installation of the FA by the LL or GC, CFP will take over the monitoring. No third party monitoring will be needed. CFP needs to monitor any FA directly from two installed phone lines. Depending on the needs of the GC to pass C of 0 inspections the GC may install these lines and transfer them to BL following the inspections. If the FA has been installed by a third party the LL or GC should be prepared to supply CFP with all necessary programming information including zones, passwords, etc. The GC and FA installers should be prepared for direct contact by a CFP representative to facilitate scheduling for the reprogramming of the FA panel. LL or GC must provide Big Lots with answers to the following questions following the execution of the lease: • Does the GC intend to install a FA exclusive to our space or is it going to be integrated into a larger LL system? If the FA is exclusive to Big Lots please see notes below. • If the FA is part of a larger LL system please provide information regarding monitoring company and contact numbers to add Big Lots store associates to the call list.
