By placing pallets on beam levels, available space within your building cube is maximized. A rack section consists of two main components, the endframe and the beam. Four beams are required per section for lateral stability. 1.2 North American racking is adjustable on 2" centers. In a retail and warehouse enviroments the demands of merchandising and seasonal variations requires the constant rearrangement of the storage levels. 1.3 Under "normal° warehouse application the rack arrangement, pallet height and beam spacings remain constant. If the current rack elevations have been altered and exceed the following stated levels, then these calculations are no longer valued and must be re- issued. 1.4 Endframes consist of two columns with four vertical bends per column. These are secured with box type horizontal and diagonal braces by mig welds at four points per brace. Each endframe has two footplates for anchoring to floor. The heavy gauge footplate distributes the Toad over the concrete floor. Two holes serve for easy floor anchoring from either side of the frame. 1.4.1 The common endframe capacities are calculated for 2 or more equally spaced beam levels per bay on standard or seismic footplates. The maximium unrestrained strut height is the height from the floor to the top of the first beam level or the beam spacing if greater. More levels than calculated may be fitted to the bay so long as the allowable capacity of the beams and common endframe (load per bay) are not exceeded, based on maximium unrestrained height. 1.4.2 Where an upright frame is not braced against sidesway in the longitudinal direction, the following shall apply: for the portion of the column between the bottom beam and the floor, the effective length factor (K,J shall be 1.2 if the base is anchored and 1.7 if the base is not fixed. For the portion of the column between the beam levels, the effective length factor (K,J shall be taken as 1.2. Where the endframe is braced against sidesway in the longitudinal direction, the effective length factor (K,J shall be 1.0, provided that all such racks have bracing in the vertical plane and such racks have either a rigid and fixed shelves or diagonal bracing in the horizontal plane designed to eliminate sidesway of the upright frames. The effective length factor (K.,) for the portion of the column between braced points is 1.0. The effective length factor (ICJ for torsional buckling is 0.8. 1.5 Structural or Rollformed beams for pallet and shelf loading are available in a variety of heights depending on the load requirement. Each beam has two end connectors. Each connector features a six -point connection for moment resistance, squareness and provide uniform Toad distribution across the support points. An optional anchored seismic footplate provides moment resistance at the base of the post. Two safety clips are required per beam to resist a 2000 Ib. upward force from material handling equipment. Tabulated loads are safe unifomily distributed loads applied over the entire length of a pair of b 1.5.1 1.5.2 1.5.3 1.5.3 1.5.4 Capacities above the bold line are based on a 1.67 factor of safety against yield of the extreme Capacities below the bold line are based on maxlmlum deflectlon of the length of beam divided Beams in excess of 108" may require front to rear supports to prevent spreading or rotation. Extrapolation is not recommended. 1.6 Conventional formulae cannot be relied upon to give accurate strength data for the full range o gauge sections. Thus the use of pallet rack load tables is recommended. 1.7 The following tables apply only to uniformity distributed static loads, consult your NAS represe coditions; seismic, wind or dynamic. 1.8 The calculation are stated in imperial units (since these were the units used in the sectional drawings and properties). mSREVIEWED FOR daDDE COMPLIANCE y 180.APPROVED aluesr bQ 8 2012 • applietggp fifjt . ,.1 .g ILDIN • VISION 2.0 NAS Pallet Rack steel structural members are cold - formed from HRPO mild steel.
