after the Allied nations and Germany ceased World War I hostilities on the eleventh
hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month; and
WHEREAS, Armistice Day was designated a National Holiday by Congress in
1938 and renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor American veterans of all wars; and
WHEREAS, Veterans Day continues to be commemorated as a special and
solemn occasion in honor of the millions of men and women whose military service has
had a profound effect on the history of our Nation; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila honors and thanks all of America's veterans for
their patriotism and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Allan Ekberg, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do
hereby proclaim November 11, 2016:
Veterans Day
in the City of Tukwila and encourage all public officials and members of the
community to join me in recognizing this important observance.
