TUKWILA CITY COUNCIL
CALL TO ORDER Mayor Rants called the Special Meeting to order and led the
audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Introduction to Developmental Steve Lancaster, DCD Director, informed the Council that the
Regulations Planning Commission had approved the transmittal to the City
Council of the Commission's recommendations regarding the Tree
Ordinance and the Sensitive Areas Ordinance as they relate to the
Developmental Regulations. A "definitions" chapter had also been
included in the packet. The Commission has not completed its
review of all definitions, but felt the Council would need this
preliminary version to assist in its review of the SAO and trees
chapters. Lancaster continued that he anticipates the Planning
Commission will complete its review of the Use Districts next
Thursday, and hope to transmit these to the Council on Friday,
September 15. Lancaster also reviewed the tentative schedule for
discussing and ultimately adopting the Developmental
Regulations.
The Council expressed concern about interim regulations regarding
parking, the size and design of parking spaces. The Council
continues to receive complaints in this area. They would like to
address this specific issue as soon as possible.
In responding to the Council's inquiry regarding what happened to
a Parking Study that was done a few years back, Lancaster said he
will research this information and get back to the Council.
In responding to the Council's concerns with regard to the speed in
which some of the signal lights operate, the Mayor informed them
that the Public Works Department is working on a system

that will coordinate the timing of the signal lights in certain areas
of the City.
Lancaster reiterated the tentative schedule for the Developmental
Regulations Deliberations: Monday nights 6:00 8:00 p.m; and
Thursday nights 6:00 9:00 or 10:00 p.m. The Council
concurred and also added that they did not wish to continue with
Court Reporters. They agreed to accepting action minutes in lieu
of employing Court Reporters to produce verbatim transcripts.

ADJOURN TO EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS A LABOR
ISSUE FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES. MOTION
CARRIED
MOVED BY EKBERG, SECONDED BY ROBERTSON, TO
EXTEND THE EXECUTIVE SESSION FOR
APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES. MOTION CARRIED.
MOVED BY EKBERG, SECONDED BY ROBERTSON, TO
ADJOURN THE EXECUTIVE SESSION AND CONVENE TO
THE CQMMITTEE OE THE WHOLE. MOTION CARRIED.
