Council -Mayor Discussion
Working Together
Council President Duffie welcomed attendees and facilitated a conversation between the City
Council and Mayor Ekberg regarding effective communications, collaboration with the Tukwila
School District, the Mayor's 90 -day outreach plan, is' quarter policy deliberations, and the 2017 -2018
budget process.
Workshop - Effective Council Process and Decision - Making
Ann Macfarlane, Principal, Jurassic Parliament, led a workshop that covered the following topics:
• Role and authority of chair and members
• Individual responsibility of elected officials contrasted with joint and collective
responsibility of council to citizens and city
• How clash of individual views improves council discussion
• How council can unite behind decisions once made

Council Discussion
The City Council watched a video produced by the National League of Cities titled R.E.A.L. (Race,
Equity and Leadership) Talk.
Council President Duffie facilitated a Council discussion that included 2016 committee work plans,
policy issues, and budget process. No decisions were made.
