goals as a diverse and regionally competitive economy, and a positive community
identity and image. Elevate 2017 promotes a positive community image, and supports
the City's commitment to the expansion of businesses that are minority- and women -
owned.
WHEREAS, The City of Tukwila's Vision and Comprehensive Plan seeks to
maximize Tukwila as a regional crossroads, strategically positioned with its central
location between Seattle and Tacoma, on the I -5 corridor, and in the Puget Sound
Region; and hence the reason for the location of the Elevate 2017 event — an event that
draws from both King and Pierce counties.
WHEREAS, Elevate 2017, A Day of Motivation and Empowerment, is designed
to motivate, empower and uplift African- American professionals, business owners and
college students, support personal and professional growth and development through a
series of nine prominent African- American speakers, addressing topics that directly
impact personal efficacy, and personal and business growth. Elevate 2017 also creates
business and professional networking opportunities that are intended to lead to future
collaborations and synergistic partnerships.
WHEREAS, Elevate 2017 will act as a motivational catalyst to nearly 200
African- American professionals, business owners, college students, and vendors, and
provide structured networking to support future successful connections, all while
utilizing leadership, communication, wealth - building, business - building, and personal
effectiveness skills taught at the event.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Allan Ekberg, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do hereby
proclaim the 21St day of January 2017 as:
Elevate 2017 Day
in the City of Tukwila and encourage all community residents to join me in supporting this
event.
