PARK COMMISSION PARKS a :C n VJ i� � MINUTES oww�uioiiumuwwmwuw� 1 February 8, 2017 5:30pm Tukwila Community Center Call to Order: Vice Chairperson Don Scanlon called the meeting to order at 5:32pm. Attendance: Commissioners — Don Scanlon, Heidi Watters, Sean Albert (Excused — Mike Martin, Matt Mega) Staff — Robert Eaton, Mia Navarro (Presentation 3.a) Citizens — Scott Kruize (Presentation 3.c) Approval of Minutes: Heidi Watters moved to approve the minutes of the January 11, 2017 meeting. Sean Albert seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Special Presentations: A. Mia Navarro, Community Engagement Liaison, introduced herself and gave an overview of the projects and services she is working on. The Commission had some questions and expressed interest in partnering with her in regards to P &R outreach to the community, specifically for Green Tukwila. B. Sgt. Kraig Boyd, Tukwila Police, had to reschedule and will be presenting at the March 8, 2017 meeting. C. Scott Kruize, Community Member, presented information on flying remote controlled vehicles from his knowledge of being a member of the Academy of Aeronautics. This was valuable information as the commission will be looking to develop a policy regarding remote controlled vehicles within parks. Citizen Comment: No comments. Business Items A. Green Tukwila 20 -Year Stewardship Plan — Robert provided an update for the commission on the status of this project. The plan is on the 2/13/17 Community Development and Neighborhoods Council Committee agenda with the intent to be forward to the 2/27/17 Committee of the Whole and 3/6/17 Regular Meeting for adoption by resolution. Several commissioners expressed interest in attending the meetings in support of the plan. KaBOOM! Grant — Robert updated the commission on the status of the potential grant. Heidi Watters and her two daughters participated in the conference call that happened on 2/2/17 with KaBOOML If approved, the tentative install date will be Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Cascade View Community Park. C. Park Zoning —This is a newly added standing agenda item. No updates this month. Other: A. Commissioner Scanlon confirmed that Duwamish Gardens is now open and looks great. He asked if there was an update on the transfer of North Winds Weir from King County to the City of Tukwila and Robert replied that there was no new information. Commission Scanlon also shared that on Saturday 2/11/17 at 11:00am he will be releasing 19,000 salmon and that Sabey will be releasing 60,000 on Monday as well. B. Commission Watters asked if public park or green space is being included in the design of the new public facilities the city will be building? Robert mentioned that there should be lots of opportunity for input from the community throughout the process and encourage her to take advantage of those opportunities. Adjournment: Sean Albert moved to adjourn at 6:31pm. Heidi Watters seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
