HomeMy WebLinkAboutCDN 2017-04-10 Item 2A - Discussion - Flags on Tukwila International BoulevardTSD Movie /Documentary & PAC Highway Beautification Poster Students Content - Highlight Tukwila's unique past by exploring the testimonies of our citizens • Show how connected everyone really is here in our district o There are no such things as walls betweens friendships or families! - Discuss our progress by tapping into the stories of our immigrant and refugee students and families - Generate awareness concerning local gun violence, prostitution, and "Under the Carpet Racism" in Tukwila (focus on student testimonies) Flag Project Documentary Content Ideas (Past) - Give a quick background that explains the history of TSD - Feature the Tukwila Historical Museum and possibly interview old locals (that are familiar with the Tukwila Community before various groups of people settled) (Present) - Explain how Tukwila became so diverse, what brought people to Tukwila? - Touch on Gun Violence, Prostitution, Racism 01 Purpose The new administration of the US currently incites hate and shuts out people of the world, therefore polarizing the nation and our communities even more. We want to inspire students and people to continue loving one another regardless of race or gender. Despite this change of leadership in our nation, we want to maintain the love we have fostered in 'Tukwila. What We Need? "I think a documentary of the history of white America and the impact it has on students is a great ideal I think we should listen to everyone's personal stories and their perspectives of life. l think it's a great way to understand everyone better and become closer, even. It sounds pretty cool." - Mariah Bolton, Junior. "I think a documentary of personalized stories and different perspectives of our own lives would be really interesting to see. It will make people aware of the different problems that impact everyday lives in our high school. Plus it will just add perspective for people in their lives.' - Ramiro Ortiz, Junior. What do you think of us having a documentary describing personalized stories and different perspectives of your own life? "Definitely is a good ideal." - Shiloh Bowen, Senior. d be [really] cool if people saw our lives cause like Mr. Kraght said there's a bunch [of] people in foster that live hard lives but still have to adhere to school and american life. " - Kobe Promvongsa, Junior. 1) We get this lesson from all of our Social Studies teachers so often that we are comfortable with the subject. I feel that students would see it as something normal to learn about and embrace their history. 2) We would have to go about it in a good way. We can't all be Brandon from Humans of New York, but we all have potential to be as open as his subjects. I think that we would potentially make it anonymous, or only allow voiceovers as opposed to camera interviews to make it more comfortable. Sharing is a bit difficult because sharing requires trust, but if someone is made comfortable (atmosphere, how questions are worded, if they can express themselves creatively) then believe that trust can be earned." - Daniel Humkey, Senior.
