Meeting was called to order by Chair Gerie Ventura at 5:38pm
Minutes -Steve Miller moved and Linda McLeod seconded to approve the December 6,
2016 minutes. Motion passed. Steve Miller moved and Marie Parrish seconded to
approve the March 7, 2017 minutes. Motion passed.
Business -A preview of the new library for Library Advisory Board members and ofliers

Foster Library will close on Sunday, April 23rd and the new Tukwila Library will open
Saturday, April 29th. There will be no library service until the new library opens. All holds
will be held until the new library opens.
The new library opening ceremony will start at 9:30. There may be musical
entertainment. Speakers will be Mayor Ekberg, State Senator Hasegawa, officials from
KCLS and the KCLS foundation, a member of the Duwamish tribe, someone from King
County and Marie Parrish will speak on behalf of the Advisory Council. Marie Parrish
will invite Sharon Kidd's family.
There will be parking at the old building, Foster High School and in Bartell's parking lot.
A shuttle will take people from Foster High School to the new library. Signs will be put
up to direct attendees.
Discussion of giveaways at the opening was held. Angie Bendetti asked if the Library
Board could fund small water bottles and cookies for the opening. After consultation
with Kirstin May, it was determined money was available. Marie Parrish moved that
Kirstin work with Angie to purchase water bottles and cookies for the opening. Steve
Miller seconded the motion. Motion passed. The KCLS graphics department will make
labels for the water bottles. Staff will be available to give out new library cards and
answer questions. Marie Parrish, Linda McLeod, Steve Miller and Gerie Ventura will be
available to help as needed.
There will be new books in the larger library and additional staff. Library hours will
remain the same.
Because of the increased load on staff to get the new library running smoothly, Marie
Parrish moved that discussion of a survey of patron computer use be tabled to
September. Steve Miller seconded and the motion passed.
Summer reading begins in June for all ages. There will be a morning kickoff on June
10th
Spanish time is going well and some patrons go to programs at more than one library.
At Southcenter Library, the signage will be updated. Half the library will be closed while
the expansion is worked on. Eventually, the library will need to close for a short period
to finish the project.
Kirstin May passed out the completed updated city ordinance on the Library Advisory
Board.
Adjournment — Marie Parrish moved to adjourn at 6:40pm and Linda McLeod seconded.
Motion passed.
