Just after 6pm this evening, Tukwila Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire,
which was quickly upgraded to a Commercial Fire as the brush fire was impinging on
the building .
The first arriving unit found smoke and flames outside a small strip mall with multiple
businesses. Upgrading to a Commercial Fire and declaring it a "Working Fire",
dispatched two additional engines, a second ladder truck, an Aid Car and two Battalion
Chiefs. Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, King County Fire District 20, North
Highline Fire, South King County Paramedics and Zone 3 Rehab unit responded.
Per Incident Commander Ben Hayman "The crews made a quick and aggressive attack
on the brush fire and were able to extinguish it before it extended into the building".
That attack kept the fire from damaging the building or any of it contents.
No reports of injuries to civilians or firefighters.
Investigators are still on scene searching for a cause. Damage was minimal and only
on the exterior of the building.
NOTE: This was a good example of how quickly brush fires can spread during these
hot dry days. Please remind everyone not to drop any hot items such as cigarette butts
and make sure chains are not dragging on roads. The grass and shrubbery are very dry
right now and will quickly spread out of control.
