Shortly after 6pm on July 11, 2017, Tukwila Fire Department was dispatched to
someone stuck on the river bank in the 16700 block of West Valley Highway. Upon
arrival, and with the assistance of citizens in the area, our crews were able to locate an
adult male partially in the water, holding onto brush on the shoreline. The patient was
alert and oriented and was cooperating with responders to help him get out of the water.
The Incident Commander dispatched Tukwila's rescue boat to assist with getting the
patient out of the water. He was transported by the boat to a different location up
stream that provided a safer and easier access point for crews to get him to the
ambulance.
The patient was evaluated on scene by South King County Medic One Paramedics and
eventually transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non -life- threatening
injuries.
Kudo's to Tukwila Fire crews, Tukwila Police and South King County Paramedics for a
great coordinated and skilled rescue of this individual! No responders were injured, and
this appears to be an accidental fall into the river. No foul play was reported or
suspected in this event.
