Staff updates Jan B., called the meeting to order, introductions made. All Derek Speck, Economic Development Administrator Stacy/Rachel All All Stacy/Rachel Derek Speck, Economic Development Administrator, shared that ED recently had an intern compile demographic data (education, employment, stats) that will be included during the creation of the Economic Development plan. Conducting outreach events and gathering input from stakeholders will be essential in the plan development. Once completed and adopted by council, the ED plan will provide direction to council and include strategies on accomplishing future goals (kinds of businesses to attract, jobs, workforce development, effect on budget, city economy). Revenue and cost of business will be looked at closely as the plan is developed. Outreach to business and residents (What skill set is needed set? What do our residents need to compete for the local jobs? Tukwila asset mapping, family leave stats, are their gaps in child care? What are living wage jobs? Small business success?) *Charis will be able to provide some data to help build the Tukwila profile related to Highline College*. Currently in the ED division, Brandon is focusing on the Hotel/motel lodging tax, attracting visitors to Tukwila (notjust overnight guests, day visitors also), image/branding. Along with the land -sale agreement at Tukwila Village, the Knights Inn Motel on TIB, is exploring revitalization options as well. Rachel/Stacy shared that HS is currently going through a restructure. The HS division has moved to the Communications, Government Relations and Community Engagement (pending name change) division where a natural alignment around policy impacts (state/local), community outreach and redevelopment of the HS program (strategically aligning methodology and best practices for the next 5-10 years). At a future HSAB meeting discussion will transpire around upcoming strategies. Staff will flu for quorum on September meeting date/time. A motion was made and seconded to end the meeting at 5:30 pm.
