Presentation of Finance and Safety Committee Recommendation
Councilmember Seal stated that the Finance and Safety Committee held a special meeting on June 2,
2016 and made a majority recommendation to direct staff to proceed with public outreach on "Option
1," which is a voter approved bond to fund construction of three new fire stations, a justice center to
house Police and Court, and fully fund fire apparatus and equipment over the life of the 20 -year bond.
The second component would be a combined shops facility funded by the General Fund and utility
rates. The Committee was not in favor of including the shops facility in a bond proposal for voters.
Discussion
Councilmembers asked clarifying questions and discussed the recommendation at length. Consensus
existed to proceed with public outreach on the proposal as described. The Council is interesting in
hearing from the community before making any final decisions.
