CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for performing complex administrative, analytical, and professional
assistance work to demonstrate the Police Department's compliance with and adherence to standards
established by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC), as well as grant
management, training coordination, and providing assistance with complex Public Records Request.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
TASK ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
NO. (These duties are a representative sample, position assignments may vary).
1 Assists the Police Department in creating and maintaining files. Serve as an
alternate/assistant TAC. in preparation for WASPC and other profossional
accreditation audit°.
2. Reviews, edits, formats, and submits grant proposals on behalf of the Department.
3 Researches and recommends grant opportunities.
4 Administers grant funding once it is awarded. Maintains files, compiles reports, and
processes and tracks expenditures related to grants.
5 Reviews, edits, and formats policy and procedural draft documents on behalf of the
Department. Distributes adopted policies and procedures.
6. Processes and routes training requests.
7. Monitors and performs tasks related to complex public records requests.
8. Contacts other agencies, cities, officials, and Tukwila staff to exchange information
and coordinate schedules and programs.
g Acts as a confidential assistant to the Records Senior Manager to perform
administrative duties associated with complex projects and the handling of sensitive
information, such as Public Records Request involving internal Investigations.
10 Becomes familiar with, follows, and actively supports the mission, vision, values,
policies and procedures of the Tukwila Police Department.

Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the assigned work
week hours.
KNOWLEDGE (position preferred requirements at entry):
• Policy developmcnt and accreditation compliance processes in the Law Enforcement field;
• Principles and practices of modern public safety agency operations and administration;
• English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation;
• Grant funding management and related compliance procedures;
• Research methodology;
• Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment; and
• Customer service techniques.
SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
• Preparing, editing, and maintaining accurate documents, reports, records, and files;
• Reading, understanding, and interpreting technical materials concerning law enforcement and
criminal justice processes;
• Keyboarding at 50 wpm;
• Learning and applying technical terminology that is specific to Law Enforcement;
• Exercising sound judgment in making decisions;
• Working independently to perform assigned responsibilities;
• Effectively handling and maintaining confidential information;
• Using a personal computer and related software applications and databases;
• Project management and handling multiple tasks;
• Establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels and
with the public and the community; and
• Communicating, both verbally and in writing, to effectively convey information.
TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (Position requirements at entry):
Associates degree in Communications, English, Business, Political Science or Criminal Justice or 2
year degree in related field and three years related office support experience in a Law Enforcement
agency, or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge,
skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties of the job.
A valid Washington State driver's license, or the ability to obtain one prior to employment. ACCESS
level II certification required within 6 months of hire.
Washington State Patrol Terminal Agency Coordinator Certification, or ability to attain within 6 months
of hire.
This position is subject to a comprehensive backgrounding process including: personal background
investigation, polygraph exam, psychological evaluation, and a drug screen.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, mobility, fingering,
grasping, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force
frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including a human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting, most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are
required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. Some positions may require greater
periods of walking and/or standing.
