I noticed CTI crew installing formwork for the face of wall to Project Specifications and at proposed elevation with a laser level and station rod. The current sub grade elevation for this lift of the wall at this section from E2+10.00 to E0+77 is 190.77 respectively. CTI has cut 1" plywood for formwork to support the face of wall at 18" width at 8' lengths. down to fmished sub grade elevation to the angle point at Station E0+76. 7:20am I observed CTI has placed three Ecology Blocks at the wall location from Station E2+10.00 to E1+50.00 and attached a steel cable through each block for Fall Retainment. The blocks are set back from the face of wall approximately 6 feet. Each member of CTI's crew working within the six feet area from the face of wall is wearing Fall Retainment Harnesses. 7:35pm William Parsons from King County Materials Lab visited the Project Site to evaluate compaction of the gravel borrow material being placed at the Geo Grid Wall base. He is using a Troxler Moisture Density Guage to test compaction at two different locations for this lift placement. Test results at Station E1+2 at Elevation 190.77 (99.2% compaction @ 5.2% moisture) and at Station E 1+77. at Elevation 190.77 (99.1% @ 6.3% moisture). Dry Density measurements were consistent at 124.3 lbs. per cubic ft. 8:35am I observed CTI has employed their Hitachi 270L Excavator to begin excavating for finished sub -grade elevation of 154.94 at Wall "E" North starting at the angle point at Station E0+77.66 to Station E0+00. The excavated material is then being placed and compacted behind Wall "E" North using a D6 Dozer to spread the material and a CS453 Vibratory Roller to compact the material. 9.00am CTI crew has now fmished setting the form work and is now placing a string line to keep the form level and straight for this 100 foot section of the wall. CTI will now set in place 3/8" diameter steel strap with a length of 2'7" X 1' height. This is being done to support and maintain the wall face batter for each layer installed at the wall. The steel straps are set under the plywood formwork at 1' to 4' spacing intervals. 9:45am I noticed CTI is now deploying #110 type matting at Station E2+10.00 to Station E0+77 on top of the previously compacted lift at the wall with a minimum turn around of three to five feet and a 6" overlap at each deployed Geo -grid section. Concrete arrived on site at approximately 5:00 AM. Sampled, tested and cast a set o1 (4) cylinders for compressive strength veri- fication from the first load. Results were a temperature of 76 degrees, a 6 112" slump, a 4.0 air content and a 145.9 pcf unit weight. Truck sampled was 5469, ticket 5171526. Batch weights for all three Toads were found to be within tolerances. The required dis- charge time was met for all three loads. Reinforcement was inpected prior to concrete placement and found to be per the approved plans, as to size, grade, spacing, lap splices, weep hole control and construction joints and clearances. Forms were sturdy and adequately braced. The Contractor built stable scaffoldings to work from. The Contractor properly placed 2' Lifts into each section, at a time, via pump. The concrete was mechanically consolidated with a high frequency vibrator, which was the proper length to reach the bottom of the wall. A total of approximately 25 cubic yards of Stoneway's mix 5 460175, from the Seattle plant 511, was placed today. All concrete testing was preformed per the specifications of Cast In Place Concrete, Section 03300. The material is being loaded at the south central portion of the WSDOT pile and Audra (Hart Crowser Geologist) is monitoring load -out operations. 6:14am CTI has begun simultaneous load -out of Non -Native High Fines from the upper southwest section of the WSDOT pile. 6:22am I noted that the Tire Wash System is activated and that CTI trucks are utilizing the system. 7:OOam William Parsons (King County Materials Lab) arrived to obtain data (pounds per cubic foot) on various materials on the site. 7:34am CTI had a water truck driver wet down the areas of operation as a dust control measure. 7:56am Merlino's concrete crew are installing scaffolding on section eight (8) of the Wall "B" stem wall. 8:16am The Hitachi 450 excavator operator who is loading -out Non -Native High Fines is now utilizing the Cat D6H dozer to push material from the upper portion of the WSDOT pile. The operator is generating his own stockpile between loading trucks. 8:40am A contractor picked -up the full Eco -Pan (mix truck wash-out container) and delivered a new one in preparation of next week's concrete placement. 8:55am Merlino concrete personnel are installing scaffolding on the formwork of section six (6) of Wall "B". 9:03am I called Tara Pfaff (King County Materials Lab) and informed her that Merlino plans on placing concrete in sections six and eight of Wall "B" at 5:OOam Monday morning. She stated she would be here for the placement. 9:35am I noted that CTI is employing their large dozer (Komatsu D375) to push Refuse from the west end of the Storm Detention Vault into a stockpile. The material is then loaded -out by a Hitachi 450 excavator operator for transport to Cedar Hills King County Bow Lake Recycle 8 Transfer Station Site Preparation - Contract Number 1 Contract Number C00272C08 Inspector's Daily Report Report No: 93 Date: 8-28-09 Contract Title: Bow Lake Recycle and Transfer Station Prime Contractor: Gary Merlino Constr. I noted the strips are being installed per Detail #4 on page S408 of the approved plans. 10:26am CTI concrete personnel are installing prefabricated strips to form the 3/4" chamfers for both sides (front and back) on the top of Wall "B". 11:01 am I observed that a Merlino concrete crew member was driving wedges between the formwork and the overlaid plywood at the seams to ensure a smooth finished surface. 11:59am I reminded Jim Bidon (Merlino) about Field Directive #9 to install flashers on the jersey barriers and ecology blocks located above the deep excavation (Waste Water Holding Tank) and the existing westbound lane by the Trailer Yard. 12:19pm I noted that the CTI Hitachi 270 excavator operator has graded about 250 linear feet of 1.5:1 slope on the south side of the future Waste Water Holding Tank. The slope is also next to the existing asphalt roadway (by Trailer Yard). The operator is using the "heel" of the bucket to compact the slope material which is predominately refuse. 1:20pm CTI has a vacuum street sweeper cleaning the roadways. 2:OOpm Merlino utility and earthmoving crew halted operations for today.
