Introduction LDC THE CIVIL ENGINEERING GROUP Commercial Infrastructure Residential At the request of Verizon Wireless, we have performed a structural analysis for the installation of a new microwave at SEA -Mall Rats AWS in Tukwila, Washington. The evaluation was completed in accordance with the 2012 IBC, and the American Society of Civil Engineers Standard 7-05 (ASCE/SEI 7-05), and the 13th Edition of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, all under the following site specific conditions: Basic Wind Speed: 85 mph Exposure Category: C Occupancy Category: IV (per IBC Table 1604.5) Risk Category: IV (per Table 1.5-2 of ASCE 7-10) Occupancy Classification: II Seismic Site Class: D Site walks were conducted October 31, 2013, November 8, 2013, and November 14, 2013, and numerous photos were taken. Selected photos from these site walks are included in the appendix of this report. A previous Structural Analysis report by LDC was performed on November 8, 2013. Applicable portions of the Structural Analysis report have been included in the body of this report. II. The current antennas are noted in the Site Modification Change Order included in the Appendix of this report, as well as on page 12 of this report. A partial platform framing plan is included as page 7 of this report, showing the antenna placement as originally specified by KDC Architects. III. Proposed Antenna Configuration In each of the two sectors, Alpha and Gamma, two of the antennas are to be replaced with much larger antennas that increase -the -overall: weight and sail area -cif the- antennas to.the affected mounting poles and roofTplatformateel---w beams. These new antennas and the ones to be replaced are noted on page 12 of this report and the Site Modification Change Order in the Appendix. IV. Structural Observations On the Gamma (South-southwest) sector of antennas, after analyzing two of the three-dimensional single angle diagonal struts that are framing to a high single angle beam and the steel roof framing below, -it Was determined that the kl/r ratio for these members exceeded the -code -allowable, -rendering -them structurally non-functional. The geometry of these struts is also structurally questionable at best. Similarly, for the Alpha (northern) sector of antennas, when the site photos taken from the site walk of November 8, 2013, and November 14, 2013, the antenna locations shown on the partial platform framing plan from KDC Architects is not what was implemented in the field. A break in the top horizontal Unistrut support does not give proper lateral support to the antenna system. Selected pictures of both sectors are included in the appendix of this report. V. Conclusions For the Gamma sector antennas, no changes need to be made to the existing antenna mounting poles, or the HSS or W sections, as these members are structurally adequate to support the antennas in the current locations. However, the existing diagonal struts at each end of the antenna array need to be removed and replaced with angle 3X3X3/16 minimum to a new bracket arrangement as detailed in this report. Moreover, two additional angle 3X3X3/16 struts will be added parallel to the plane of the antennas, connecting to the top flange of the existing W18 and the end of the other diagonal strut above. For the Alpha sector antennas, no changes need to be made to the existing HSS or W sections as these members are structurally adequate to support the Engineerin, ABOVE the Standard 2 LOC, Inc. • Commar antennas in the current locations. However, the two existing Unistrut diagonal struts need to be replaced and a third strut added, all as detailed with angle 3X3X3/16 minimum, to stabilize the discontinuous horizontal joint and the entire antenna system. Additionally, the horizontal Unistrut brace needs to be replaced as detailed with angle 3X3X3/16. Details and sketches have been included in the report to include photo markups for each sector, all describing the changes needed. Please note that LDC must be notified immediately if the siteconditionsare found to vary from our structural analysis assumptions, as additional analysis and design may be necessary.
