How many people will be there during the weekdays? This item was requested in the previous PW comment letter but was not addressed in your August 5, 2013 resubmittal. 2) There appears to be a misunderstanding since your August 5, 2013 Revision Submittal form states that "items requested in letter from Public Works to QUESTAR II Partnership dated May 28, 2013 are being addressed under permit for fire sprinkler installation, submitted by Ross Bell, Spectrum Fire." Installation of Detector Double Check Valve Assembly (DDCVA) either inside or outside the building requires a Public Works permit as well, which is separate from the fire sprinkler permit issued by the Tukwila Fire Department. Please make sure that your plans clearly show DDCVA location, size, manufacturer, and model number and include a cut sheet of the device to be installed. 3) Domestic water Reduced Pressure Principle Assembly (RPPA) has nothing to do with the fire sprinkler system and shall be submitted to Public Works for review and approval. Please make sure that that your plans clearly show RPPA location in relationship to the existing domestic water meter, specify backflow's size, manufacturer, and model number and include backflow cut sheet. RPPA, previously called a Reduced Pressure Backflow Assembly (RPBA), shall be installed immediately downstream of the existing permanent water meter. Installation at another location requires the Public Works Director's approval. The RPPA shall be installed in a Hot Box/Rock or equal freeze protection enclosure anchored to a minimum 4" thick concrete pad. 4) Please submit a construction cost estimate for DDCVA and RPPA installation. s Joanna Spencer From: Todd Reedy Sent: Monday, March 25, 2013 10:20 AM To: Joanna Spencer Subject: RE: 15437-15439 53rd Ave S L13-006 Hi Joanna, Regarding backflow prevention @ 15437-15439 53rd: - No RPPA installed on 2" domestic service for premise isolation. -No fireline connection to this property. - The irrigation is connected to a different account. If any future projects include alterations to the existing plumbing system, the entire plumbing system must be brought up to the current standards as set forth in the Uniform Plumbing Code, including installation of approved backflow prevention on domestic water, fire prevention and irrigation line. The City has determined that the subject building has deficiencies on the domestic water, fire prevention lines. a) Domestic Water A Reduced Pressure Principle Assembly (RPPA), previously called a Reduced Pressure Backflow Assembly (RPBA), shall be installed immediately downstream of the existing 2" permanent water meter. Installation at another location requires the Public Works Director's approval. The RPPA shall be installed in a Hot Box/Hot Rock or equal freeze protection enclosure anchored to a minimum 4" thick concrete pad. Public Works strongly recommends a power supply be provided for the freeze protection enclosure. On your site plan, please show the property line(s), street name, North arrow, building location, and size of existing permanent water meter and proposed RPPA. Show manufacturer name and backflow model number. Submit RPPA cut sheet and circle backflow to be installed. b) Fire Prevention Since the building needs to have a fire sprinkler system a Detector Double Check Valve Assembly (DDCVA) shall be installed. It is more economical to install this backflow inside the building rather than outside in a fire vault. It will be a brand new fire system therefore plans for DDCVA installation must be stamped, signed and dated by a Level III certificate of 6300 Southcenter Boulevard, Suite #100 • Tukwila, Washington 98188 • Phone: 206-433-0179 • Fax: 206-431-3665 competency holder and by a WA State registered professional engineer. The Fire Department Connection (FDC) shall have a Storz Knox Lock Box installed. Contact Tukwila Fire Department at (206) 575-4404 for ordering information. You will need to submit a revision to this TI permit or apply for a separate Public Works Type C Construction Permit that includes the installation plans of the subject backflows together with a construction cost estimate for items a, and b.. For a Type C permit, Public Works collects a base application and plan review fee ($250.00 plus 2.5% of construction cost for RPPA and DDCVA installations. An additional 2.5% of subject construction cost will be assessed at the time of permit issuance.
