i VLOING DIVISION
It is my understanding that you are anticipating adding a new layer of roofing over an existing
single layer. As you know, the roof structure is 1/2 inch plywood over 2 x 4 stiffeners at 24
inches on center spanning to 4 x purlins at 8 feet on center. These purlins span about 20 feet to
large glue lam beams.
It is my also my understanding that the new layer of roofing will weigh about 0.8 pounds per
square foot. Section3404.3 of the 2009 IBC allows for a 5 % increase of the design gravity load
on the roof without modification to the original structural members. As you are adding only
about 2%, it is my opinion that adding the new roofing layer is allowable per current building
codes.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,

Sarnafil G459 Flashing
Membrane
Overview:
Sarnafil G459 flashing membrane is a heat -weldable roofing membrane for-
mulated for direct exposure to the weather and is produced with an integral
fiberglass mat reinforcement for dimensional stability. G459 flashing mem-
brane is used to flash roof penetrations within Sarnafil Express, Sarnafast®,
Engineered and Adhered roofing systems. G459 flashing membrane can
be adhered directly to asphalt -contaminated surfaces,
Composition:
G459 flashing membrane is a high quality product containing PVC resin,
pigments, stabilizers, ultraviolet absorbers, and a fiberglass carrier sheet.
Sarnafil G459 Flashing Membrane comes in 12" lengths and is 60 mil (1.5)
Thick. The standard color is white.
Features:
The manufacturing process causes G459 flashing membrane to have
no built-in stress at time of production and to have a fully -encapsulated
reinforcement with no risk of delamination or water -wicking. G459 flashing
membrane is thicker than many competitive products which can improve
weldability and service life. G459 flashing membrane is highly dimensional-
ly stable making it ideal for adhered flashing applications at walls, termina-
tions and penetrations. G459 flashing membrane is resistant to asphalt and
many other rooftop contaminates. Either side of G459 flashing membrane
can be exposed to weather conditions which allows it to cover rooftop con-
taminates or act as a sacrificial layer for contaminates being emitted onto
the roof. Sika Sarnafil recommends testing for compatibility. Contact Sika
Sarnafil's Corporate or Regional Offices.
Codes and Approvals:
Sika Sarnafil's Adhered Systems using G410 PVC membranes are clas-
sified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., Underwriters Laboratories of
Canada, FM Global, Miami -Dade and Florida Building Code. Sika Sarnafil

Sikaflex° - 1 a
Overview:
Sikaflex-la is a premium -grade, high-performance, moisture -cured, one -
component polyurethane -based, non -sag elastomeric sealant used in cer-
tain Sika Sarnafil roofing or waterproofing system flashing details. Typical
applications include wall, curb and drain terminations. It is also used as a
sealant at pipe penetrations and under certain metal flashings.
Composition:
See Material Safety Data Sheet for Composition. Sikaflex-la cures to a
light gray color with a smooth texture.
VOC Content: 40 g/L
Features:
Sikaflex-la bonds well to Sika Sarnafil PVC membranes and to common
building materials. It is easy to apply and has excellent workability charac-
teristics.
Sikaflex-la is USDA -approved, NSF -approved for potable water contact,
jet fuel resistant and has high elasticity curing to a tough, durable, flexible
consistency with exceptional cut and tear resistance. It meets Federal
Specification TT -S -0023C, Type H, Class A. It is paintable with water-, oil -
and rubber -based paints.
Sikaflex-la is VOC compliant in California and has excellent weatherability
and resistance to degradation by ultraviolet light.
Packaging:
Sikaflex-la is packaged in 10.3 fluid oz (305 ml) disposable cartridges (24
per case). A cartridge covers approximately 15 linear ft (4.6 m) based on a
3/8 in (9.5 mm) bead. The actual coverage rate will vary depending on the
size of the bead. A case weighs 25 lbs (11.3 kg). The shelf life is 15 months
in an unopened cartridge.
Installation:
The recommended application temperature for Sikaflex-la is between 40°F
(4°C) and 100°F (38°C). For cold weather applications, condition cartridges
at approximately 70°F (21°C) and maintain that temperature until just prior
to use.
Do not apply over damp surfaces as this will affect adhesion and may
lead to bubbling within the sealant. Clean all surfaces. Substrate must be
sound, clean, dry, frost -free, and free of oil and grease.
