PERMIT CONDITIONS

1: ***PLUMBING AND GAS PIPING***
2: No changes shall be made to applicable plans and specifications unless prior approval is obtained from the Tukwila
Building Division.
3: All permits, inspection records and applicable plans shall be maintained at the job and available to the plumbing
inspector.
4: All plumbing and gas piping systems shall be installed in compliance with the Uniform Plumbing Code and the Fuel Gas
Code.
5: No portion of any plumbing system or gas piping shall be concealed until inspected and approved.
6: All plumbing and gas piping systems shall be tested and approved as required by the Plumbing Code and Fuel Gas Code.
Tests shall be conducted in the presence of the Plumbing Inspector. It shall be the duty of the holder of the permit to
make sure that the work will stand the test prescribed before giving notification that the work is ready for inspection.
7: No water, soil, or waste pipe shall be installed or permitted outside of a building or in an exterior wall unless,
adequate provision is made to protect such pipe from freezing. All hot and cold water pipes installed outside the
conditioned space shall be insulated to minimum R-3.
8: Plastic and copper piping running through framing members to within one (1) inch of the exposed framing shall be
protected by steel nail plates not less than 18 guage.
9: Piping through concrete or masonry walls shall not be subject to any load from building construction. No plumbing
piping shall be directly embedded in concrete or masonry.
10: All pipes penetrating floor/ceiling assemblies and fire -resistance rated walls or partitions shall be protected in
accordance with the requirements of the building code.
11: Piping in the ground shall be laid on a firm bed for its entire length. Trenches shall be backfilled in thin layers to
twelve inches above the top of the piping with clean earth, which shall not contain stones, boulders, cinderfill,
frozen earth, or construction debris.
12: The issuance of a permit or approval of plans and specifications shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an
approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of the Plumbing Code or Fuel Gas Code or any other ordinance of the
jurisdiction.

4. Application: Use only on piping systems where axial movement from
thermal expansion is less than 1/2 -inch.
5. For Hanger Straps: Elcen Figure 94 or Anvil Figure 97 with flattened -end
bolt through cast iron socket; or hinged type, Modern Hanger Corporation
No. 20, Elcen Figure 104, or Anvil Figure 108. Pipe rings shall be electro-
galvanized, prime painted or cadmium -plated.
B. Pipe Clamps:
1. Vertical piping: Unistrut P-1332 shelf bracket, Unistrut P-1100 channel and
Unistrut P-1100 series pipe clamps. Copper pipe clamps for copper pipe.
2. Horizontal racked piping: Unistrut P-1109 series or Unistrut P -2024C series
clamps for Unistrut channel pipe racks.
3. Application: Use on piping systems without any thermal expansion.
2.05 EQUIPMENT BASES AND SUPPORTS
A. Concrete pads shall be 3-1/2" high. Pads shall extend 6 -inches beyond machine
base in all directions with 3/4 -inch top edge chamfered. Structural steel frame
supports shall have all joints welded. Galvanize after fabrication.

Provide additional hangers or supports at concentrated loads such as valves, to
maintain alignment and prevent sagging.
Provide a minimum of 2 hangers per pipe section for grooved joint pipe.
C. Size pipe rings and clamps to pass around the pipe, except on piping with a vapor
barrier on the insulation, then size rings and clamps to pass around the outside of
the insulation utilizing insulation protection shields Anvil Fig. 167. Provide rigid
inserts as required to prevent crushing of insulation.
D. Install vertical piping supports to allow for pipe movement due to thermal expansion
and contraction.
E. Do not support any pipe from any other pipe.
F. Provide special hangers and supports for vibration control in critical areas. See
Vibration Isolation Section.
G. Provide bored, drilled or reamed holes for all bolting to miscellaneous structural
metals, frames or for mounts or supports. Flame cut, punched or hand sawn holes
will not be accepted.
H. Install anchor bolts for all mechanical equipment and piping as required. Tightly fit
and clamp base -supported equipment anchor bolts at all equipment support points.
Provide locknuts where equipment is hung.
3.03 EQUIPMENT BASES AND SUPPORTS
A. Provide supports, pads, bases and their attachments for mechanical work to be
furnished or installed.
B. Provide concrete pads for pumps, compressors, other rotating mechanical
machinery, boilers, and for equipment where indicated on the drawings. Insert #4 6 -
inch -long steel dowel rods into floors to anchor pads.

1. Provide seismic protection for all piping in accordance with the most current
edition of the SMACNA publication "Seismic Restraint Manual - Guidelines
for Mechanical Systems", Hazard Level B.
3.05 SEISMIC PROTECTION OF EQUIPMENT
A. Provide seismic protection for all equipment in accordance with the international
Building Code, and all local amendments, most recently adopted by the authority
having jurisdiction.
B. Overturning force calculations for equipment shall be prepared and shall be used to
determine anchor bolt size and locations.

approved. All correction requests from each department must be addressed at the same time and reflected on your
drawings. I have enclosed comments from the Building Department. At this time the Public Works Department
has no comments.

Please address the attached comments in an itemized format with applicable revised plans, specifications, and/or
other documentation. The City requires that two (2) sets of revised plan pages, specifications and/or other
documentation be resubmitted with the appropriate revision block.

PLAN SUBMITTALS: (Min. size 11x17 to maximum size of 24x36. Please submit all plans on the same size
paper. Revised plans need to be the same size as originally submitted).
(If applicable) Structural Drawings and structural calculation sheets shall be stamped and signed.
1. Please provide the method of sizing the gas piping sections including calculations if applicable.
2. Plan pages relative to the new gas piping should be stamped by a Mechanical Engineer licensed in
the state of Washington.
3. Provide gas piping support details and spacing of supports, assuming gas piping is above ground.
4. Welded gas pipe joints will need special inspection by an inspector certified in gas pipe welding.
Please add this requirement to the plan notes if applicable.
