Dear Applicant:
Upon review of you application for a sign permit, the Community Development Department cannot
approve the permit as submitted.
1. The proposed sign area is too large. The business in question has a wall area of 572 square feet.
The following formula is used to determine the wall sign size., 25+ 0.04 x (EBF -500), where EBF=
Exposed Building Face. Using this formula the maximum permitted wall sign size would be 27.88
square feet. The proposed sign is 30 square feet in area, which is too large. It is possible to increase
the maximum sign area to 34 square feet. This is allowed for each doubling of the required setback
for the underlying zone. The front setback for this zoning district is 15 feet. Thus, the building in
question must be setback 30 feet to qualify for the increase. It appears that this property has a setback
of 40 feet, thus you would qualify. This will require Special Permission from the Director of
Community Development. The application material is enclosed with this letter.
On another note, before issuance of any sign permit application, a copy of a valid contractor's license
must be submitted to the City.

INSPECTIONS
If the sign needs structural review, the applicant or installer is required to call the Building Division at 431-3670 for footing or bracket
inspections. Footing inspections must take place before concrete is poured. Bracket inspections must take place before sign is
installed.
A structural inspection is required for all signs when installation is complete. The applicant or installer is required to call the Planning
Division at 431-3670 for a final inspection.
It is the responsibility of the installer to obtain the electrical permit and inspections from the Washington State Department of Labor
and Industries at (206) 248-6630.
SIGN PERMIT APPLICATION IS VALID FOR 180 DAYS AFTER ISSUANCE.
