INSPECTIONS
If the sign needs structural review, the applicant or installer is required to call the Building Division at 431-3670 for footing or bracket
inspections. Footing inspections must take place before concrete is poured. Bracket inspections must take place before sign is
installed.
A structural inspection is required for all signs when installation is complete. The applicant or installer is required to call the Planning
Division at 431-3670 for a final inspection.
It is the responsibility of the installer to obtain the electrical permit and inspections from the Washington State Department of Labor and
Industries at (206) 248-6630.
SIGN PERMIT APPLICATION IS VALID FOR 180 DAYS AFTER ISSUANCE.

This is to inform you that Tukwila Storage is withdrawing
their application for a new monument sign. They decided
it will be set back to far to be readable.
They are considering installing a time/temp unit on the
facade of the building. Please let me know how much
signage area they have left on their building.

RE: Sign Application for Tukwila Self Storage
Dear Mr. Brown:
The 14 -day notice of application period began on October 7, 2003 and will end on October 21, 2003 at 5
PM. The hearing before the Planning Commission has been scheduled for November 13, 2003.
The following outstanding items still need to be addressed:
1. The exact location of the sign must be staked out on the property.
2. If any landscaping is altered or removed a landscaping plan must be submitted to the City to replace
the altered or removed vegetation.
3. A signed written statement by the business owner stating that the electronic portion of the sign will
only be used to show time, date and temperature.
4. The following notes need to be added to the plans:
a. All signs shall have installed ambient light monitors and shall at all times allow such monitors to
automatically adjust the brightness level of the electronic sign based on ambient light conditions.
b. Maximum brightness levels for electronic signs shall not exceed 5,000 nits when measured from
the sign's face at its maximum brightness, during daylight hours, and 500 nits when measured
from the sign's face at its maximum brightness between dusk and dawn, i.e. the time of the day
between sunrise and sunset.
5.. 10 copies of the plans must be submitted to the City. These plans will be for the Planning
Commission's review during the hearing.
These items need to be addressed and all new submittals need to be made no later than November 3,
2003.

PROPOSAL: The application is for the construction of a freestanding sign located
along Southcenter Blvd. In 2002, the Planning Commission granted
the building design review approval. The Planning Commission must
approve any new signage on the property.
The freestanding sign will be 6.6 feet tall and have two sign faces with
each sign face being 24.17 square feet in area. The sign will feature an.
electronic portion that will only display date, temperature and time.

Industries

Dear Mr:
The Department of Community Development received your sign permit application on August 27, 2003. As
previously noted the sign application will require review and approval in a design review hearing.
Based on a review of your application for submittal requirements for a sign permit and design review,
your application is deemed complete as of September 25, 2003. A notice of land use application will be
distributed within 14 days of this date. The next step is for you to install the notice board on the site within
14 days of the date of this letter. You received information on how to install the sign with your application
packet. If you need another set of those instructions, you may obtain them at the Department of Community
Development (DCD). Also, you must obtain a laminated copy of the Notice of Application to post on the
board. This notice is also available at DCD. After installing the sign with the laminated notice, you need to
return the signed Affidavit of Posting to our office.
Upon an initial review of the application the Planning Department has the following comment:
1. Please stake the corners of the sign at the exact location it will be placed on the property.
This determination of complete application does not preclude the ability of the City to require that you
submit additional plans or information, if such information is necessary to ensure the project meets the
substantive requirements of the City or to complete the review process.

RE: Sign Application for Tukwila Self Storage
Dear Mr. Brown:
The City received your sign permit application on August 27, 2003. The application is for the
installation of "v"shaped sign at Tukwila Self Storage. Tukwila Self Storage was approved
through design review. Thus ,the Board of Architectural Review (BAR) must approve any new
signage at a public hearing. The following is required in order for the application to be taken to
the BAR.
1. Please provide a King County Assessor's map(s) which shows the location of each property
within 500 feet of the subject lot.
2. Two sets of mailing labels for all property owners and tenants (residents or business) within
500 feet of the subject property. Note" Each unit in a multiple -family buldings—eg.
apartments, condos, trailer parks—must be included.
3. A 4' x 4' public notice board will be required on site within 14 days of the Department
determining that the application is complete. Please see the handout that is attached.
4. Please provide a signed written statement by the business owner stating that the electronic
portion of the sign will only be used to show time, date and temperature. Please be aware of
the following requirements:
a) All signs shall have installed ambient light monitors and shall at all times allow such
monitors to automatically adjust the brightness level of the electronic sign based on
ambient light conditions.
b) Maximum brightness levels for electronic signs shall not exceed 5,000 nits when
measured from the sign's face at its maximum brightness, during daylight hours, and
500 nits when measured from the sign's face at its maximum brightness between dusk
and dawn, i.e. the time of the day between sunrise and sunset.
c) For signs using incandescent lamps, such lamps shall be no more than 15 watts.

5. A note on the site map mentions that the sign will be seven feet from the front property line.
Yet the sign's placement on the site map is within four feet of the property line. The location
of the sign on the site map must reflect the proposed location, please revise the site map.
