Dear Ms. Sandell:
On April 26, 2006, the City received the additional plans for the proposed I -Floor
signage at 17600 West Valley Hwy.
The City provided a correction letter on April 11, 2006 and noted that the proposed
sign was too large for the wall where the sign would be located. When we spoke at
the front counter on April 25, 2006, Mr. Martinez noted that there was additional
lease space that "IFLOOR" would be using and thus would allow for a larger sign.
Nora Gierloff and I asked that you submit the plans and show the entire wall that
the business would be using.
The plans submitted on April 26, 2006 show the same elevation that was submitted
on April 10, 2006, however the length of the wall has changed. You must show
the entire wall to scale that will be used to calculate the exposed building
area.
After you met with Planning staff on April 25, 2006, staff pulled old sign permits for
the subject address in an effort to assist you in this matter. In 2002, "Home
Furniture" was issued a wall sign for exact location where "IFLOOR" will be locating
(S02-053). In that sign permit application, the applicant noted that there was 3,360
(57.5 by 28) square feet of wall area. This number differs from the 5,510 square
(33 by 170) feet that you are noting in your current plans and differs from your
original plans which noted a square footage of 2,975 (33 by 85).

Planning staff also reviewed our Geographic Information System database and
attempted to get a rough estimate on the length of the building, which was
approximately 155 feet. However, this is just an estimate and cannot be used for
the plans you have submitted.
It is the responsibility of any applicant to accurately and correctly show the proper
dimensions of the wall area for a sign permit in order to calculate the allowable sign
area.
The proposed freestanding sign does meet code and the City will allow you to
proceed with the reface of that sign.

I have reviewed your sign permit application and determined the proposed wall sign is
too large. According to TMC Section 19.32.140, Table 1, the allowable sign area for the
wall sign is 108 square feet. The proposed sign is 130 square feet. You may submit a
revised drawing for this application.

installed.
A structural inspection is required for all signs when installation is complete. The applicant or installer is required to call the Planning
Division at 431-3670 for a final inspection.
It is the responsibility of the installer to obtain the electrical permit and inspections from the Washington State Department of Labor and
Industries at (206) 248-6630.
