Dear Ms. Lee:
Thank you for your letter dated August 3, 2007. I have discussed this matter with my
Acting Director, Jack Pace, and the City is proposing the following as a way to resolve
the issue:
Although the non -conforming pole sign was recently refaced without a city -issued permit
as required under our sign code, the new sign as installed does not increase the degree of
non -conformity. The new sign appears to be smaller than the original sign — the arrow
was removed and not replaced. Therefore, the City will permit the new sign to remain as
a legally non -conforming sign under our code. This means that in the future, if the sign is
changed in any way from the current sign (change of text, damage repair, etc.), it will
need to meet the sign code for size, location, height, and setbacks.
You will need to apply for and obtain a sign permit for the pole sign as it exists today. I
have included an application form, which you will need to submit not later than August
31, 2007. If you have any questions, please call me at 206-431-3682.
