Peter,
Thanks for you application for your two proposed wall signs. There are a few issues that need to be
clarified before moving forward on this application.
First, have you gone over this proposed sign package with the owners of the Wig development site? We
at the City are under the understanding that Wig has a very specific set of design standards that must be
meet for all signage at their site as a means of maintaining consistency within the development. What
this means is that while we could approve the signs per our municipal sign code you may not get
approval from them to install it. It may be worth your time to do this in advance of obtaining a permit
from us as any sort of design, placement or resizing issues would need to go back through the review
process here for permitting again.
As for your submitted plans there are a few things that need to be clarified before I can determine if your
signs meet code. First, the way that our code works is for each exposed building face that will be utilized
for a wall sign, meaning that you cannot simply add your total exposed building faces together and divide
by two to determine how much signage is allowed for each face. For example, you claim that your North
Elevation exposed building face is 918 Sq Ft so you would use that total to determine how much sign size
is allowed on that face only: 25 + 0.04 x [918 - 500] = 41.72 allowed sign Sq footage. The same would
obviously apply for the other face as well.
As for your calculations on your exposed building face sq footage there are also some issues. I need
better dimensions in a larger [and maybe white text?] format that is to scale. Your picture of the North
Elevation claims to be at a 1/4" = 1' scale, but a quick measurement finds that scale to be incorrect when
compared to your provided dimensions. Additionally, I tried to figure out how you calculated your
exposed building face numbers and was a bit baffled at how you came to these calculations. For example,
the measurements here for the North Elevation say that the building face is 25.7' in width and 21.26'
[15.54'+5.72'] in height, making your exposed building face 546.38 Sq Ft, not 918 sq ft as you claim in
your plan set. It seems that maybe your numbers could just simply be backwards, as the rear seems like
a much larger exposed area but is cited here as being the smaller of the two.
I need some clarification if you could provide it here or in your resubmitted plans that you will need to
create. To gain some additional exposed building face - thereby bumping up your allowed sign size - you
can also add the white molding feature at the top of each building face as part of your exposed building
face, just provide me the measurements and add it to your total for each face.
As for the signs themselves the same issues of clarity apply. I need a properly scaled drawing of each
proposed sign with dimensions of length and height in order to determine its actual sign sq footage.
As stated before however, I urge you to take the time to go over these plans with the Wig site owners
before working on a resubmit for me. We at the City are under the assumption that Wig only wants
channel cut lettering for their wall signs and as indicated here the bottom portion of each wall sign would
maintain an oval box. Now we are not positive on this assumption but as permitted in the past each sign
has done channel lettering [in fact, Panda Express had to re install a new sign that was permitted by us
last year due to this same issue] and we would hate to see you have to resubmit for another application
and pay another 250$ for the signs. Please let me know if you need any clarification on these
requirements that need to be meet in your application process by return e -mailing me here.

inspections. Footing inspections must take place before concrete is poured. Bracket inspections must take place before sign is
installed.
A structural inspection is required for all signs when installation is complete. The applicant or installer is required to call the Planning
Division at 431-3670 for a final inspection.
It is the responsibility of the installer to obtain the electrical permit and inspections from the City of Tukwila Permit Center at
(206) 431-3670.
