Re: Landscaping at the northeast and southeast corner of Andover Park East and
Industry Drive; 617 Industry Drive, Tukwila.
Dear Mr. Bethune:
This is to follow up on our meeting on May 14, 2001, regarding your proposal to modify the
landscaping at the corner of Andover Park East and Industry Drive.
As we discussed at the meeting, the landscaping in question was installed as part of the sidewalk
and tree improvement project in the Central Business District of the City. The landscape plan
was based on the concept of creating nodes at street intersections along the corridor. A
combination of shrubs and trees were planted at all four corners of the intersection of Andover
Park East and Industry Drive to create such a node. Most of this landscaping is within a utility
easement on private property.
Your proposal to move the shrubs back from the street edge would not be consistent with the
overall design for the entire corridor. We also understand that on the SE corner of the
intersection, some of the shrubs have been removed and some have been moved back from the
edge of the sidewalk and this work was done without the City's approval.
You have also expressed concern regarding sight distance problem for vehicles making left turn
from Industry Drive in order to go south. Attached is the site plan that shows the 40 feet vision
triangle. Please note that none of the landscaping in question is within that vision triangle.
Additionally you are permitted to trim the existing shrubs to improve the visibility. Please note
that the shrubs may only be trimmed the least amount necessary. Shrubs may not be trimmed
lower than three feet.
Further the City is willing to consider a revised plan that replaces the existing Cistus Skanbergii
(Rockrose) in the area between two handicap accessible ramps (the middle one-third portion of
the entire row) with a ground cover such as Ceonothus Gloriosus. All landscaping on the SE
corner of the intersection must also be restored to its original condition. If you decide to replace
Rockrose with a different groundcover, such design should also be reflected on the SE corner. If
you decide to pursue this option, please submit a landscape plan for the City's approval.

Additionally you are also permitted to prune some of the low branches of the existing trees to
improve visibility of the monument sign. It appears that the low branches of two existing trees
have already been pruned. Similar pruning can be accomplished for the remainder of the trees.
If you have any further questions, you can reach me at 206-431-3685.

Hi Brian:
411 Page 11
This is regarding landscaping in the easement area at the NE corner of the intersection of Andover Park
East and Industry Drive. A landscape architect would like to set up an on-site meeting to talk about some
options for landscaping in that area. They would like to remove some rock rose and other shrubs and plant
some different shrubs. Let me know if somebody can meet with him and I will set up the meeting. Thanks
Minnie

humid coastal regions; where summers are dry and hot, grow it to harvest
well before or well after midsummer. Home gardeners usually plant one of
the several `Snowball' varieties or hybrids such as `Early White Hybrid' and
'Snow Crown Hybrid'. An unusual variety is `Purple Head', a large plant
with a deep purple head that turns green in cooking. `Romanesco' makes
cone-shaped heads of light green flowerets that are less tightly packed than
those of other cauliflowers. Considered to have a fine flavor. 'Cauli-Broc'
Hybrid', a cross between cauliflower and broccoli, has a light green curd
with a flavor resembling that of both parents.
Grow cauliflower like broccoli. Start with small plants. Space them
18-20 in. apart in rows 3 ft. apart. Be sure to keep plants actively growing;
any check during transplanting or later growth is likely to cause premature
setting of undersized heads. When heads first appear, tie up the large
leaves around them to keep n
