We have the following comments: Design Review Waiver Jack Pace, Planning Manager, has approved your design proposal for the Fatigue Technology monument sign. The landscape design changes reflected in that submittal have been deemed to be "minor and insignificant" and, as such, will not require Planning Commission approval (per TMC 18.60.030(D). Please be advised that in -the absence of a color rendering, we assume that the materials and color used for the monument sign will match those of the building exterior. If that is not the case, please notify the undersigned immediately. Sign Permit Application Deficiencies Although the requirement for Planning Commission approval has been waived we have identified the following deficiencies in your sign permit application: 1. The sign has only one face, not two. Based on TMC 18.32.140(D) and the premises' street frontage of 270 linear feet, the maximum size of that sign face may not exceed 75 square feet. Your proposal provides for a sign face size of 64.21 square feet, comprised of two images ("Fatigue Technology, Inc." at 43.8 square feet and "FTI" at 20.41 square feet). However, you have not calculated the sign area correctly. The size of the sign area is calculated by constructing one polygon around both images, using right angles. The size of the resulting polygon may not exceed 75 square feet. Please revise your design accordingly. 2. Although you have indicated that the sign height is 3 feet, 4 inches, this has not been documented adequately. Please dimension and scale all monument sign elevations. Per TMC 19.08.100, sign height means the distance measured from: a. The lowest point of elevation of the ground between the top of the sign and point five feet distance from said sign, or 6300 Southcenter Boulevard, Suite #100 • Tukwila, Washington 98188 • Phone: 206-431-3670 • Fax: 206-431-3665 John Bund April 24, 2001 Page 2 b. The lowest point of elevation of the finished surface of the ground between the top of the sign and the property boundary, if it is less than five feet distant from said sign. The top of the sign is that portion of the monument containing the image "FTI". 3. Your proposal shows the location of the proposed sign to be 2 feet, 4 inches from the closest edge of the sign to all property lines. However, per TMC 19.32.070 any freestanding sign shall be set back from all property lines a distance at least equal to the overall height of the sign. For example, if the sign height is 3 feet, 4 inches then the required sign setback from all property lines may not be less than 3 feet, 4 inches. Please revise your proposal accordingly. 4. You must provide a copy of a valid Washington State contractor's license for the firm that will be installing the sign. Your sign permit cannot be approved and issued until these deficiencies have been corrected. Next Step Please provide us with four complete sets of plans. Of these four, one set is to indicate all revisions using a visual cue, such as a "cloud". Upon receipt of the corrections identified in Items 1 through 4, we will continue to process your sign permit application. PLEASE NOTE: Although your requests do not require Board of Architectural Review approval, you must still coordinate these changes with the Building Department before proceeding any further.
