HomeMy WebLinkAboutCivilService 2017-11-06 MinutesCity of Tukwila Mayor's Office - David Cline, City Administrator November 6th, 2017 Allan Ekberg, Mayor The following commissioners attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the Tukwila Civil Service Commission: Bruce Paquette, Stephen Wheeler, and Ron Johnston. Others in attendance were Deputy Police Chief Rick Mitchell, Fire Chief Wittwer, HR Analyst/Civil Service Examiner, Sara Valdez. CALL TO ORDER 5:04 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES POLICE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS Staffing Update Certified Police Support Officer Eligibility List FIRE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS Staffing Update Review of Promotional Testing Chair Bruce Paquette called the meeting to order. The Chair asked if there were any corrections needed for the October 2nd, 2017 Commission Meeting minutes. No corrections were noted. Deputy Police Chief Rick Mitchell was in attendance in place of Police Chief Linton and presented the Commission a staffing update. There are a total of 78 Commissioned staff out of 83 authorized positions leaving 1 regular position vacant and 4 pipeline positions. 5 entry level Police Officers currently in the Academy and one scheduled to graduate mid- December and one every two weeks after. All non-commissioned positions are filled with the exception of one current vacancy. The new Transport Support Officer(TSO) is in the first phase of the background process. Written testing is scheduled for this week for the Support Operations Administrative Specialist position and Oral Boards will take place the following week. It is to be recorded that the Police Support Officer Eligibility List was certified outside of a regular meeting commencing on October 16th, 2017 and ending on October 15th, 2018, or until depleted. Chief Wittwer provided the Commission a staffing update with a copy of an employee roster. The Fire Department is currently fully staffed including the 5 approved pipeline positions and anticipate upcoming retirements potentially around the first part of next year. Chief Wittwer gave the Commission an update for an upcoming promotional testing for a Captain eligibility list that is anticipated to take place in March/April 2018. Tukwila City Hall • 6200 Southcenter Boulevard • Tukwila, WA 98188 • 206-433-1800 • Website: TukwilaWA.gov Request to Extend Entry Level Eligibility List ADJOURNMENT 5:35PM Chief Wittwer requested the extension of the current Fire Entry Level Eligibility List that is scheduled to expire November 28th, 2017 due to the fact that there are nineteen eligible names remaining on the list and thirteen have confirmed they would like to request to remain on the eligibility list if the extension is approved. This would save time and funds of having to go through the process again before reaching out to those available remaining on the eligibility list first. MOVED BY JOHNSTON, SECONDED BY PAQUETTE THAT THE CURRENT CERTIFIED ELIGIBILITY LIST BE EXTENDED ONE YEAR EXPIRING ON NOVEMBER 28TH, 2018 OR UNTIL THE LIST IS DEPLETED. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.
