Linton, Chief January 11, 2018 6:30pm-8:OOpm Members Present: Jun Castillo, Jerry Thornton, John Lindsay, Kim Karns, Roger Arnold, Carol Pizano Staff Present: Chris Partman, Chief Linton Guest: Maureen Manley, SHAG; Liliana Cardenas, Tukwila School District • Introductions • Minutes for 12/14/17 meeting approved as corrected • Introduction by Officer Victor Masters • Been here 3 years, prior to joining TPD he • Does Social Media • Does online/social media investigation • Official job is Social Media and Recruiting • Comment from the group that he has a lot of fans and puts out a lot of good information • This is information straight from the, PD, not filtered through other people. Descriptions of the PD Facebook page, Tukwila Police Department as a Federal Agent • Chief's update: • Staffing not a lot of changes • At 77 of 79 commissioned officers 4 just graduated from academy 1 additional in academy graduating in a month or two 2 Laterals incoming, 1 from Chicago, 1 from Border Patrol • Been very busy over the last 2 months at community meetings, the CPT also attends. • Last night had a community meeting at an apartment community with a lot of people in attendance. Since King County Housing Authority has purchased the property there have been increasing issues. • COPCAB Project: • Mailboxes? • Engage with the community ideas? Group consensus on it. • Community Police Academy coming up Handed out ideas for goals/projects, see attachment • Good of the Order • Chris — Mandatory training, links will be sent out and Community Police Academy • Liliana — Issues in the schools. Fires have been set at playground at Tukwila Elementary. Homeless activity, a person sleeping in front of the administration building. Someone shooting windows over the summer with BB guns. Chief Linton would like to re -start the school safety meetings with the School District, PD, School Security and Library. • Roger — is in semi -retired mode. Used to work for Seattle Municipal Court. Has done security at Microsoft, worked with Seattle School District with at risk students at Chief Sealth, used to coach some of the Sonics in the local leagues, cooked for Union Gospel Mission, has been a Children's minister at his church, has done some acting, created jobs through Seattle Public Schools and helped place disabled students in them and also some typically developing students. Worked with Sam Reed as Secretary of State to work with veterans who needed to open claims. • John — He thinks it would be fun to get a vintage Tukwila PD car. • Chief Linton — Introduced Leon Richardson, Support Services Manager. Kim complimented the new online records request system. • Carol — has worked in education for the last 9 years, was a 911 dispatcher in California prior. Works in the Superintendent's office • Maureen — works for SHAG and is the regional outreach specialist and is looking for partnerships.
