Mayor Bauch, presiding, led the Pledge of Allegiance and called
the Regular Meeting of the Tukwila City Council to order.
LIONEL C. BOHRER, Council President, MABEL J. HARRIS, GEORGE
D. HILL, J. REID JOHANSON, DANIEL J. SAUL, DWAYNE D. TRAYNOR,
GARY L. VAN DUSEN.
Also seated at the Council Table were the Japanese Consul
General for the Pacific Northwest; the Vice Mayor and
Council Members from Ikawa -Cho, Japan.
LAWRENCE E. HARD, City Attorney; JOHN MCFARLAND, Administrative
Assistant; MAXINE ANDERSON, City Clerk.
MOVED BY BOHRER, SECONDED BY SAUL, THAT THE MINUTES OF THE
REGULAR MEETING OF NOVEMBER 5, 1979, BE APPROVED AS PUBLISHED.
MOTION CARRIED.
MOVED BY HARRIS, SECONDED BY BOHRER, THAT THE VOUCHERS, APPROVED
BY THE FINANCE COMMITTEE, BE ACCEPTED AND WARRANTS BE DRAWN IN
THEIR RESPECTIVE AMOUNTS. MOTION CARRIED.

Mayor Bauch read, in its entirety, a resolution of the City
of Tukwila, Washington, establishing formal affiliation with
Ikawa -Cho, Japan.
MOVED BY BOHRER, SECONDED BY HARRIS, THAT RESOLUTION NO. 701
BE ADOPTED AS READ. MOTION CARRIED.
Mr. Hiroshi Nakayama, Interpretor, read, in Japanese, the
Resolution of Affiliation.
MOVED BY BOHRER, SECONDED BY VAN DUSEN, THAT THE ITEMS OF
BUSINESS, 6 THROUGH 10, ON THE AGENDA BE CONTINUED TO THE
MEETING OF NOVEMBER 26, 1979. MOTION CARRIED.

Mayor Bauch introduced the Japanese Consul General for the
Pacific Northwest and the eleven dignitaries from Ikawa -Cho,
Tokushima -Ken, Japan, that had come to the City of Tukwila
for the exchange of Sister City Affiliation documents. They
are as follows:

Also attending the meeting were the 30 eighth and ninth
grade students from the Ikawa -Cho Junior High School and
members of the Host Families. Mayor Bauch welcomed the Sister
City representatives. Mr. Yoshiichi Ishikawa, Japanese Vice
Mayor, extended their thank you and message from Mayor Akira
Sogabe from Ikawa -Cho who was unable to travel to the United
States.
Mayor Bauch and Vice Mayor Yoshiichi Ishikawa signed and
exchanged documents officially affiliating the Cities of Ikawa
and Tukwila.
Council President Bohrer extended greetings on behalf of the
City Council.
Consul General Naoki Nakano congratulated the Cities on the
forming of the Sister City Affiliation. There are 16 such
relationships in the State of Washington. This program
is an important cornerstone for an intimate and lasting friend-
ship between our two peoples.
Mayor Bauch presented the cast from which the cornerstone for
new City Hall was formed to Vice Mayor Yoshiichi Ishikawa to
take back to Ikawa -Cho for their new City Hall. Other mementos
were exchanged between the two City Officials.
Mayor Bauch recognized the following people for their help with
the formation of the Sister City Affiliation. He presented
Outstanding Citizen Certificates to:

Mrs. Deborah Falk Interpretor
Mr. Mrs. Cliff Webb Auburn Lion's Club
Mr. Nakayama introduced the students from Ikawa -Cho who performed
their folk dance called "Awaodori."
Mayor Bauch thanked the Hosts who opened their homes and their
hearts to the visitors from Ikawa -Cho.
