HomeMy WebLinkAboutTLAB 2017-03-07 MinutesTukwila Library Advisory Board Minutes March 7, 2017 Attendance: Steve Miller, Linda McLeod, Angie Benedetti, Marie Parrish, Scott Kruize, Abbie Anderson, Kirstin May, Gerie Ventura Meeting called to order at 5:42 pm by Scott Kruize, Vice Chairman. There were no minutes to approve and no citizen's comments. Business: Dr. Seuss Night was reported on by Abbie and Kirsten. This year everything was in the gym and seemed to work better. Dinner was macaroni and cheese. Abbie was a storyteller and had 44 direct contacts. The Library 2 Go vehicle was there. Books purchased by TLAB were given to children attending the event. It was estimated that over 200 people attended. New library building update - The building will open April 29th at 9:30 am. Angie will meet with KCLS personnel March 14th and a schedule will be determined for the opening. She will report details at the next TLAB meeting (April 4, 2017). There may be give aways to mark the day. The current Foster Library will close one week in advance to provide time for the moving of materials. Other KCLS news — Covington will be closed for 3 weeks so that damaged caused by vandals can be repaired. Southcenter expansion will be taking place but service will continue through that time. KCLS is continuing to work on strategic planning. Members are encouraged to take a quick survey at https:// w.surveymonkey.com/r/draftscenarios to help KCLS to refine options. Library computer use — Computer use in the library was discussed. Use of computers by young boys for video games was questioned. KCLS policy is that computers can be used by patrons for any legal purpose. Patrons use library card to reserve computer time up to 2 days in advance. Individuals must use own card and lose priviledges if use another's card. The default filtering setting is some filtering of sites but adults may request no filtering. Parents may request more filtering for their children. Tukwila International Boulevard Community meetings — Marie and Angie attended the meetings about a vision for the future of TIB. Both felt it was a exciting exercise and look forward to developments on TIB. Mia Navarro — Community Engagement Manager for Tukwila introduced herself. She is working as liasion to the Tukwila School District, follows up on entries in the Tukwila Works app and reported there will be a series of open houses to provide information on the Public Safety Plan for the new justice center, fire stations and public works department.
