Minutes
Attendance: TLAB members – Linda McLeod, Gerie Ventura, Steve Miller, Scott
Kruize, Gerie Ventura; King County Library System – Angie Benedetti, Abbie
Anderson
Meeting called to order by Chair Gerie Ventura at 5:37 pm
No minutes were available.
No citizen comment.
Business:
1. Approval of bylaws - After reading the proposed bylaws,
members had questions about required trainings, changes in
schedule, order of business and other items. Discussion was
held. Linda McLeod made a motion that bylaw discussion be
tabled to June when Kirstin May would be available to answer
questions and clarify items. Motion was seconded by both
Steve Miller and Scott Kruize. Motion carried.
2. Tukwila Library Grand Opening Recap
- Great attendance. Library personnel stopped counting at
1,000 people.
- Everyone enjoyed the entertainment – Bollywood dancers
and teen break dancers.
- A preview event was held Friday, April 28 for the city

council members.
- There are 7500 new volumes in the library, 4 times the
public seating of the old library and the number or computers
has increased from 12 to 26.
3. KCLS Update
- Meeting room can now be reserved. It was decided that
TLAB would like to meet at the library in the future when
possible.
- Eating and drinking in the library is allowed as long as it is
not smelly, disruptive or messy.
- 144 will be closed for several months. Hopefully, parking

will expand soon.
- Summer reading program kickoff is Saturday, June 10.

- There is discussion with the city to hold some monthly
Council Chats at the library.
- Welcoming Week is in September.
- Children's librarian Echo will have a session using
Storybots.
- September 15 is National Parking Lots day and KCLS will
th
be having events celebrating the 75 anniversary of KCLS in
th
branch parking lots that day.
- It's hoped that Southcenter Library will be completed by late
summer.
4. Board member reports – Marie Parrish reported that Sharon
Kidd's daughter had visited the library and was pleased with
the tribute to her mom. Marie also reported on attending the
city council CNU presentation about a TIB vision.
5. Agenda items for next meeting – Bylaws discussion and
approval, 2017 budget update and Parks and Recreation
summer programs.
Steve Miller moved to adjourn, Linda McLeod seconded and the motion passed.
Meeting adjourned at 6:47pm
