Tukwila Library Advisory Board
Minutes
November 7, 2017
Attendance: Scott Kruize, Linda McLeod, Steve Miller, Marie Parrish, Angie Benedetti –
KCLS
Meeting called to order at 5:42 pm by Scott Kruize.
Minutes from September 2017 were approved with correction of spelling errors.
No citizen comments.
Budget –
Discussion was held on a request for additional $1000 funding to support the Spirit of
Giving program. Steve Miller moved TLAB approve $1000 additional funding for Spirit of
Giving for a total of $2000 to support the purchase of books, cookbooks and crockpots
and/or literacy games for families selected to participate. Linda McLeod seconded the
motion and it passed.
Scott Kruize asked for information at the next meeting about the Alzheimer's classes –
attendance and plans for next year.
Links for Training-
Links located on the city website were noted and can be used in
lieu of broken links in the Boards and Commissions Handbook so that members can
complete required trainings.
Partnerships/Volunteer Opportunities-
Rescheduled for next meeting.
KCLS Updates-
Angie Benedetti reported that the library is functioning as an after-school activity center
for middle schoolers. Currently there is no after school program at the middle school.
There are up to 150 patrons for a couple of hours after school ends. It's very busy and
the computers are in demand.
Library staff members are still troubleshooting the environmental controls. Parking is
improved with the opening of more slots which makes staff happier because they can
now park near the library.
Valley View is remodeled, and patrons/staff are glad to be back in the building.
Tukwila Library is very busy with special activities – Pop up activities, Breakout boxes
with team activities and Robotic kits.
KCLS has been awarded a grant to test Virtual Reality programming – staff creating
programming. Two libraries will be participating, and Tukwila is one.
KCLS 2018 budget information was provided. Kenneth Lee has been selected as KCLS
Chief Financial Officer and the selection process for a new Director is continuing.
Other-
Angie Benedetti reported that the next Tukwila Confluence storytelling will be January
th
24 at Tukwila Library.
Marie Parrish reported the World Dance Party has been rescheduled for April.
