HomeMy WebLinkAboutHSAB 2016-11-04 Minutes City of Tukwila Human Services Advisory Board th Friday, November, 4, 2016 Human Services Conference Room 6300 Southcenter Blvd., suite 115 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm AGENDA TOPICS Attendees: Jan Bolerjack, Terra Straight, Jonathan Houston, Charis Hnin; Staff: Evie Boykan, Stacy Hansen Deliberations on Human Services funds: Kona Kai; board supports some funding in partnership with Foster students/program accessibility. ANEW; also some recommended funding for women in non-traditional skilled labor occupations – have both programs come in for a presentation. Increase CCS direct assistance to clients to increase base amount of award. $5700 for CCS. $5000 for PSOIC, 10K to Kona Kai and 10K for ANEW. Increase funding for REACH to $2900. Would like to visit PSOIC. KCBA, could they do a couple of workshops in Tukwila for tenant rights with additional funding? Invite Srgt Kraig Boyd, Officer’s Tran and Valdez, support towards homelessness based on what they are seeing in Tukwila. Schoolhouse WA wants to work with Tukwila School District – (Building Changes and Columbia Legal partners) case management and capacity building with district and a crisis response person, transportation and data person. Youth employment, mentorship and training that leads to permanent stable employment, how can that be supported? Based on WA roundtable, in the next 5 years, a lot of new WA jobs, but they will require 2ndary education. How do we get kids on this track with mentoring? How are kids getting guidance to go to college? How are they being supported to see more for their future? Let board know about Literacy Source’s fourth quarter performance so they can reconsider funding. Support to increase both Sound Generation programs (MOW $920, Vol Trans $812). th December meeting to talk with homeless engaged officers and Kona Kai on Tuesday, December 20. (CH is 50/50 for the date). Member sharing: Movie at Foster High School: 11-7-16 from 7-9 pm “The Homestretch”, 3 homeless teens share their story living in Chicago. Full budget goes to council on November 14, 2016 at 7:00 pm.
