As a riparian native that is attractive and fun to eat, salmonberry is the showcase plant for this park. Features • paths • gathering space • large native cottonwood trees give attractive structure to site as well as fun trunks and roots to plan on/around • open wood chipped areas for running around • seating • stream crossings • stream access (play) • nature play (logs, log rounds, boulders) • primarily natural materials (i.e. no plastic playscape) • environmental interpretation (i.e. plant ID, riparian habitat, etc.) • art (i.e. etchings of native plants/ID that kids could do rubbings of, etc.) Safety • good visual access across the site (i.e. plants not too thick and tall, significant open space, etc.) • vegetate steep slopes • City will inspect existing trees for stability Workflow • City to spray knotweed patches • Green Tukwila work parties to remove invasive species (blackberry, ivy, laurel, etc.) • possible screening -tree planting for neighbor privacy in spring 2018 (IF city will spray knotweed out of the way, and especially if gator bags can be purchased to get them through the dry summer.) • wood chip mulch • plant natives as areas become cleared • place rock stream crossing as areas become cleared • work on site signage
