HomeMy WebLinkAboutArts 2017-09-20 Minutes ARTSCOMMISSION MINUTES {ĻƦƷĻƒĬĻƩ ЋЉͲ ЋЉЊА ЎʹЉЉ Ʀ͵ƒ͵ ǒƉǞźƌğ /ƚƒƒǒƓźƷǤ /ĻƓƷĻƩ 1.Call to Order: Vice Chair Cynthia Chesak called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. 2.Attendance: Commissioners Cynthia Chesak, Alex Villella, Helen Enguerra, Brian Kennedy, Daniel Humkey Absent Trish Gilmore, Sheila Coppola, Yuriko Rollins Staff Tracy Gallaway 3.Approval of Agenda: Helen moved to accept the agenda. Alex seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. 4.Approval of Minutes: Helen moved to approve the minutes of July 19, 2017 meeting. Brian seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. 5.Unfinished Business: a.Arts Plan Update Tracy Gallaway relayed that Carolyn Law and Lesley Bain, the consultants hired to lead the creation of the Municipal Arts Plan, will be presenting the DRAFT plan to the Arts Commission at the October 18 th meeting. 6.New Business a.2017 Arts Commission Budget Reviewed the current spending plan and discussed how the funds are allocated and if the committee should consider reallocating funds for 2018. b.Commemorative item for Steve Mullet Cynthia suggested that a good way to honor Steve Mullet would be by completing the sculpture that was designed for Macadam Winter Garden and dedicating it to Steve. Cynthia noted that Macadam Winter Garden was originally developed kwila Mayor and dedicating an art piece seemed to be a fitting tribute. Discussion regarding how previous Arts Commissioners had been honored and it was noted that Steve Mullet was the only active serving Arts Commissioner that has passed away. That park was originally developed during his tenure as Mayor. ACTION ITEMS: Tracy will research the artist and original design and funding options (AC budget or Arts 1%). Tracy will confirm that a plaque was installed at the maze in Crestview Park recognizing Bil commissioner. 7.Committee Reports (who is on each of these committees) a.Rainier Symphony (Cynthia, Alex, Yuriko) No report. New band teach and choir teach at Foster. Susan Reynolds from Rainier Symphony reached out and will be sending tickets out to Arts Commissioners and also to Tracy for distribution by staff at the Tukwila Community Center (Tracy will pass the tickets on to the Recreation Coordinator that works with Tukwila Seniors). b.Backyard Wildlife Art Show (Sheila, Brian, Trish) No report. c.Arts Promotion in Community (Sheila, Daniel, Trish, Helen) No additional information. d.Staff Reports At the July meeting Sheila Coppola asked if it would be possible to make changes to the Arts Commission page of the City website. Tracy Gallaway spoke with Stephanie Gardner and the page has had some updates. Tracy asked the commissioners to review the pages and give additional feedback regarding content. Tracy was asked about the shortened URL for the Art 1 Commission page. Here is the URL for the Arts in Tukwila page: (http://www.tukwilawa.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation/art/). You can also find it by going to the Arts Commission page and clicking on Arts in Tukwila. 8.Other a.Daniel ning site . Tracy will inquire with the TIS Director. b.Brian would like a professional theater in Tukwila (like the Village Theater); Cynthia said that would come from a professional theater group deciding to relocate to this area. c.Tracy will check with the Park staff regarding maintenance issues identified at Macadam and Tukwila Park. 9.Agenda for Upcoming Meetings a.Arts Master Plan Draft Review b.Update on the art at the new library recommended art pieces (women water collector) c.2018 Arts Commission Spending Plan Adjournment: At 5:45pm Helen moved to close the meeting.
