Call to Order: Chair Scott Kruize called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m. 2. Attendance: a. Commissioners — Scott Kruize, Gerie Ventura (arrived at 5:35pm), Linda McLeod, Marie Parrish, Steve Miller b. Absent — Verna Seal c. Guests — Angie Benedetti (KCLS) d. Staff — Shannon Fisher 3. Agenda - Marie Parrish clarified that Scott Kruize was the Chair and Steve Miller is the Vice Chair. 4. Approval of Minutes: Gerie Ventura made a motion to approve the minutes provided. Steve Miller seconded the motion. There was unanimous approval. 5. Citizen Comment - None 6. Unfinished Business a. 2017 TLAB Annual Report and City Council Presentation — Angie Benedetti (KCLS) suggested the TLAB Annual Report and City Council Presentation happen the last week of April, or the first week of May coinciding with the one -year anniversary of the new Tukwila Library opening. Angie suggested the report should consist of the new Library's highlights; which are increase in foot traffic and computer usage. Maire suggested adding in the TLC (Teen Library Council) to the presentation, and Gerie suggested adding in information on how well the Friends of the Library is doing. All members agreed. Angie talked about a Library video that will soon be released showcasing the library's important impact on the community. 7. New Business a. Reading by the River — It was noted that the information below would be included in the Spring/Summer Recreation Guide: Reading by the River — Sunday, August 19`h from 2:00-4:OOpm at Duwamish Hill Preserve, S 115th St., Tukwila Join us for an afternoon of Duwamish storytelling, music, treats and giveaways at Duwamish Hill Preserve. Explore demonstration gardens and learn about the history of the Hill and the Duwamish River. This event is sponsored by The King County Library System, Tukwila Library Advisory Board, Tukwila Parks Commission, and Tukwila Arts Commission. 2 Scott Kruize and Linda McLeod will attend the planning team meetings. All Commissioners agreed they are excited about the event. Gerie Ventura would like a flyer about the event once they are created. 8. Reports of Board Members/Announcements a. KCLS, Angie Benedetti i. Angie (KCLS) passed out Library materials such as the monthly calendar. She highlighted the new IdeaX Maker Space opening in the Bellevue Library on April 14 at 10am. Angie mentioned all the Teen and Tween activities the Library has ongoing. ii. Angie (KCLS) passed out the Everyone's Talking about flyer. iii. Angie mentioned that the kickoff for the summer reading program starts on June 9th at the Tukwila Library. This event will have a performer and hands on activities for the kids. Closing of the summer reading program ends on August 18th at the Burien Library. iv. Angie thanked the Library Board for their donation toward the Dr. Seuss Party at the Library. 75 participants came and had a great time. v. Angie talked about an opportunity for Library Advisory Board members to meet the KCLS Director Lisa Rosenblum on April 7th from 9-11:OOam at the KCLS Service Center. Focus of this meeting is on talking about the Strategic Focus and book selection. Angie also mentioned a time for Lisa Rosenblum to come to a TLAB meeting either in June, September or October. b. Marie Parish will not attend the April meeting c. Gerie Ventura will not attend the April meeting 9. Other — Angie asked who the contact is at the Sullivan Center. Marie Parish suggested Angie talk to Derek Speck (Economic Development Manager) 10. Agenda for next meeting: a. TLAB Annual Report and City Council Presentation - secure date and time Adjournment: At 6:36 pm Steve Miller moved to close the meeting. Marie Parish seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 3
