HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-06-22 - Event - Southcenter District New Projects DedicationMEDIA ADVISORY June 19, 2018 Contact: Brandon Miles, City of Tukwila 206 431-3684 office 206 731-9071 cell Brandon.Miles@Tukwilawa.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tukwila, WA: On Friday, June 22 at 10:00 A.M., public officials from the City of Tukwila and the region, as well as business leaders and invited guests, will dedicate three projects in the Southcenter District: • Dedication of Southcenter Pedestrian Bridge (photo attached) • Marvelle at Southcenter active adult/55+ multifamily community groundbreaking • Ribbon cutting at the New Hotel Interurban/Landmark Apartments These investments realize the City's long-term effort to create a new residential neighborhood in Tukwila with superior access to amenities, transit and employment locations. What: Southcenter Pedestrian bridge dedication, Marvelle at Southcenter ground breaking, and ribbon cutting for Hotel Interurban/Airmark Apartments When: Friday, June 22, 10:00 A.M. Where: Parking available at the following locations: Hotel Interurban (223 Andover Park E); along Baker Blvd; and at Christensen Park — map attached. The event will begin on the east side of the pedestrian bridge. About Each Project: Southcenter Pedestrian Bridge/Baker Blvd Non -Motorized Improvements The $11 million project was funded through grants from the Washington State Department of Transportation Regional Mobility Grants Program; Federal Highway Administration; King County Open Park, Open Space, Trail, and Replacement Levy; and the City of Tukwila. The bridge and Baker Blvd improvements will provide pedestrian and bicycle connections between the Tukwila Station, which is served by both Sounder and Amtrak train service, as well as Metro RapidRide, with the Southcenter area, a regional destination for housing, employment, retail, dining and entertainment. Marvelle at Southcenter Active Adult/55+ Multifamily Project Tukwila's newest modern apartment community, designed exclusively for adults 55 and up, will offer 166 units of luxury apartment living. The project is being completed by Alliance Residential Company, a well-known housing developer in Puget Sound, and is the first of the company's active adult housing brand to break ground. When completed in 2019, this, seven story $45 million project will be the first fully dedicated housing project in the Southcenter area. Residents will have easy access to Tukwila's extensive trail system, Westfield Southcenter, and over 100 restaurants in the Southcenter District. Hotel Interurban/Airmark Apartments (Washington Place) Commonly referred to as the "Washington Place" project, this $120 million building is the tallest building between Seattle and Tacoma and features the Hotel Interurban, a full-service hotel operated by Columbia Hospitality, which opened in May of this year. Also, in the building are the Airmark Apartments, which features 371 residential units. The Airmark Apartments are the first multi -family units in the Southcenter District. Washington Place was the vision of developers Omar and Christine Lee, who also own the well-known Great Wall Mall in the City of Kent.
