The Mayor thanked the HSAB for their commitment to service for the Tukwila community 3. Board member Charis updated the rest of the board about the interfaith prayer vigil she attended regarding the current changes in immigration policy and impacts to local community. Charis also updated the board on the 0% tolerance immigration policy regarding undocumented immigrants across America. Over 200 children have been separated from their parents/guardians and have been brought to Washington state. Many local and national undocumented residents, previously held at the Federal Detention Center in SeaTac, have been transferred to the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. The norm for children finding placement is about 6 weeks, when it should have been less than 6 weeks. For th those interested in supporting children who’ve been separated from their parents, there is a July 16 foster care info night for detained children. WA State has issued questions from Governor Jay Inslee and Attorney General Bob Ferguson to A.G Sessions and S.H.S. Nielsen regarding these families, which remain unanswered. HSAB Board member Katrice spoke on the impacts of school children and many of our families (and support systems) will be adversely affected long term due to this trauma and about the need for long-term thoughtful funding recommendations. HSAB member Charis and HSAB President Jonathan wants the HSAB to use our platform to disperse information. HSAB member Charis will send a link regarding reliable information resources for us to share. Dr. Berry from the Tukwila School District issued a statement on immigration on 6/26/18. 4. RFP # 14 MAPS (Muslim Community Resource Center) through #26 Hopelink Housing was reviewed 5. Lunch was served. 6. Next meeting was discussed, and preparations were made.
